From the Principal's Desk

Happy Friday AES Community,

Happy Snow Day! Yesterday, the Third Grade had the privilege of being visited by the Antrim Grange. This organization has made an effort to provide every third grader in New Hampshire with a dictionary! We were lucky enough to receive ours this week. We are so fortunate to have such a caring community!

So today is a snow day, but just as a reminder, when we have 2-hour delays, breakfast is not served. It seems that this weather pattern has been affecting our Fridays. Please note we have rescheduled our community meeting to next Friday. Let's hope we can finally have one soon.

Important dates coming up:

January 27 - Community Meeting 8:50-9:15am

January 30 - February 15 - Midyear reading and math assessment window

February 10 - PTO fundraising orders due (see blurb below)

February 17 - 23 - NHDI

February 21- Kindergarten Registration

February 23 - 5:30-6:30 pm NHDI performance

Have a wonderful long weekend! Stay safe :)

News from the Office

If your student is going to be late, Pickup Patrol has added the Late Arrival option as part of the Drop Down. If you use this option, it does not change your student’s dismissal plans. If your student plans on ordering lunch, please indicate that in Pickup Patrol. Let us know if they would like Choice A or Choice B and white or chocolate milk. Thank you in advance for using this option when applicable.

Important: PTO Fundraiser News: Pizza Anyone?

The AES PTO is excited to announce that we are working with Hillside Pizza out of Bernardston, MA for our pizza fundraiser this year. Hillside Pizza offers some great options including Party Packs, cookie dough, gluten free pizza, and pesto in addition to the usual classic cheese or pepperoni. They use quality ingredients and we hear their products are delicious too. In order to help us reach our goal of selling 150 items, information and order forms will be sent home next week with each AES student. Please consider selling to your local family and friends. The order forms will be due back on Friday, February 10th. Ordered items will be available for pick up at the school before or after the NHDI Performance on Thursday, February 23rd.

Square One Art

This week in Muzart, we have started our square one art projects. We will have more information coming soon about when you can purchase items from the Square one website and how to create an account or log into their website. Stay tuned!

The Life Cycle of a Snowman

Mrs. Sullivan's class read “Sneezy the Snowman” and discussed/drew the story elements.

They’ve also been learning “Snowman Science” discussing the parts of a snowman, its life cycle, and states of matter.

Ms. Lawler's Class Honored Dr. Martin Luther King Jr

Ms. Lawler's Kindergarten class celebrated and honored Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. last week by making a Peace Tree. Each student drew a picture that represented a way that they could spread kindness, fairness and peace. Students shared wonderful ideas like helping others, sharing toys and making people who are sad feel happy. We will continue striving to show these things each day.

Note from School Counselor, Ms. Gregg

In classroom counseling lessons, the younger students are practicing "Mindfulness of Sight" and the older students are practicing "Mindful Eating." Students also are practicing "Silent Seconds" or "Mindful Minutes." Mindfulness is the practice of being fully aware during the present moment; focusing on what one is doing and feeling. Practicing mindfulness can enhance learning, reduce stress, and promote our enjoyment of the beauty all around us. Here is a short mindfulness activity that can be practiced at home:

2nd Graders are Writers

Students in grade two have been learning how to write informative stories during writers workshop. A grade two end of year standard is to learn how to revise and edit writing with guidance and support. In this picture, students are sharing their completed stories with each other and their first draft story to see their growth!
Way to go writers!

Authors and Illustrators in Miss Gilbert's Class

The fourth graders in Miss Gilbert's class are officially published authors! In the fall, the fourth grade came up with the idea of writing a story about Miss. Gilbert and her dog Jake traveling through alternate dimensions and thus Journey Through the Dimensions was born! Each student, as well as Miss. Gilbert and Mrs. Platt, have written and illustrated their own chapter of our book, with unique dimensions and obstacles throughout! Please contact Miss. Gilbert if you would like to order a copy!
