Superintendent's Update
School Leaders of the Diocese of Cleveland,
The mystery that is central to our faith is our focus of this week. Yesterday we commemorated the triumphant entrance of the Messiah to Jerusalem, and read the passion story on which we will dwell this week. What it must have been like to go from the exaltation of a palm-laden procession to the agony of death on the cross such a short time later. There are no doubt some lessons about leadership, if not about all of humanity, tangled in that journey. And yet, that is NOT the most mysterious -- most miraculous -- part of the story. It is the time from Good Friday to Easter Sunday that transformed the world and all of us in it. Contemplating this mystery, in whatever age-appropriate way possible, is quite simply the reason that our schools exist. Thank you in advance for all that you do to bring that Paschal Mystery to the hearts and minds of our students and families.
As we approach the Easter Triduum, the summit of the Liturgical Year, we are also mindful that this time of year can be challenging in schools. From the long slog through March and April to Easter break, or the downhill approach of the summer, and the coming transitions for some students and educators alike, there can be stressors on teachers and students, and families. A great blog post I saw recently addresses how we support educators while simultaneously challenging them to grow. It is from the Higher-Powered Learning blog, which is the Alliance for Catholic Education’s blog primarily about blended learning implementation in Catholic schools, though it touches on leadership themes as rich and complex as all of our work. It’s worth a quick read if you can find the time.
Easter blessings to all of you, your school communities, and your families as we head into this most holy season building the future of the Church of Cleveland.
Frank
