RMS Wildcat Weekly
February 5th, 2021 Information for our Families
Greetings Wildcat Families!
Great job to our Wildcats for starting strong with second semester! Final grades for first semester are now available in AERIES student and parent portal. I appreciate seeing our students reflect on their first semester and consider ways that they can work on continuously improving, even in challenging times. It has been great to see more cameras on and more engagement in the chat this week. Please help us encourage your students to participate and to turn on their cameras.
Please read the announcement below about the change to procedures for our afternoon classes. For all classes, students will log into Zoom on time, each period for attendance. Please also see other important announcements about an upcoming Parent Workshop on February 10 and Virtual Talent Show on February 11!
Thank you so much for your continued support and collaboration! Be well!
Sincerely,
Heather Golly
RMS Schedule Modifications 2.8.21
2.8.21 Updated Roosevelt Middle School Virtual Schedule
Starting next week on Monday, February 8, we are implementing new procedures for our afternoon classes (“asynchronous” classes). We are not making any changes to the times and periods in our daily bell schedule. We are altering attendance and engagement in these afternoon classes. In first semester, teachers took attendance for asynchronous classes by monitoring student access to Canvas and completion of assigned work in Canvas. In order to provide more structure and accountability for our students and to provide them with more guided support, targeted intervention, and opportunities for check-ins, students will now be expected to attend all classes via Zoom, and teachers will be modifying class time and support as necessary. Similar to all other classes in our schedule, teachers will post Zoom links in Canvas for afternoon classes.
Hapara Update
Exciting news! We are pleased to announce that a very helpful tool called Hapara is now working with our Canvas and is once again available for our teachers. Hapara is an important tool to assist teachers with digital citizenship and classroom management. We will be supporting our teachers in setting it up for their classes, and we wanted our parents to be aware of this tool and what it does. We have attached letters that detail the privacy policy and how we are adhering to the ethical monitoring policy for this instructional tool. Please let us know if you have any questions.
Cameras On!
- Turn your cameras on during specific portions of the lesson as determined by the teacher.
- Respond verbally or in writing when prompted.
- Utilize the Chat feature appropriately to communicate with teachers and peers.
It is crucial that cameras are on and that students are actively participating in class in order to support engagement, community-building, and motivation for learning. We need your support as parents/guardians to stress the importance of these expectations with our Wildcats. Students who have particular issues having their cameras on should reach out to their teachers.

Zach's Eagle project
An amazing Roosevelt alumnus!
Zach has raised a significant amount of money to paint and furnish two comfort rooms for our RMS students in our mod/severe program. Though we have had delays due to COVID-19 restrictions, the project is still moving along.
With all of the mandates and restrictions, everyone was put on hold. Zach and Talen agreed that supplies needed to be delivered so they could be utilized as soon as possible. Zach developed a delivery schedule, and last week, deliveries were made to Roosevelt MS & Vista HS (VUSD) and Woodland Park & Mission Hills (SMUSD).
We are so proud of you Zach!
