Principal's Message

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year! I hope all of you enjoyed time spent with your family and friends.

I must take this opportunity to congratulate all of our students who performed in our Winter Concerts. They all did a fantastic job. Thank you, Mr. Willis and Mr. Brunson for all that you do! Thank you to all the parents for staying for the entire performance, it is appreciated by our students. Both the District Concert and the Camp Avenue Chorus Concert were a great success and I look forward to the spring concerts in April and May.

Our Pick A Reading Partner (PARP) program begins on January 22nd! More information will follow. Happy Reading!

Kindergarten report cards will be distributed and will be on the portal on January 24th.

As always, I look forward to seeing you throughout the month of January.

Sincerely,

Hillary Bromberg Ed.D.

Recess Committee

We realized that there needed to be some changes to the options students had at recess time. What better way to find out how to improve recess than find out from the students. We formed a committee of students in grades 3-6 to act as representatives for the grades. We discussed equipment and activities that were needed outside. We also discussed some ideas for indoor recess. The students did an excellent job representing other students and mentioned ideas that they may not be interested in but they know others are. Thanks to the recess committee, recess is improving for all!

Important Reminder about Absences

Please be reminded that regular school attendance is not only mandated by law, but is a key ingredient for educational success. Legal reasons for absences include: illness, death in family, court appearances, and observance of religious holidays. If your child is frequently absent due to illness, you will be contacted and medical documentation may be requested. All other absences will be considered unexcused or truant.

Please also be aware that lateness to school can be considered partial truancy and is monitored as closely as absences. Chronic lateness is disruptive to the students in the class, the teacher, and most importantly, to the child. Parents and guardians are asked to contact the school to report each absence. This can be done by calling our Absentee Line at 516-379-3733. If you are requesting classwork and/or homework for your child on the day of the absence, please leave that message with the nurse or on the absence line. Parents are requested to submit a written and signed excuse note for each absence your child has, when they return to school.

District-wide Band and Orchestra Holiday Concert

Holiday Musical Cheer

We ended 2018 with spreading musical holiday cheer around the building. Band and orchestra members went caroling around the building. The whole school joined together in the gymnasium for a school-wide sing-along. The sing-along culminated with a faculty parody that was enjoyed by all!
