Parent/Family Involvement

Thank you, families, for attending our Back to School Nights this week! It was great to see so many of our families attend the in-person BTSN events.

There is still time to join the PTA. Our PTA provides support for field trips, playground supplies, supplemental classroom materials, and family events. Our first FREE family event of this year is coming up quickly. We have a Family Movie Night on October 7th (see below). This is a FAMILY event, not a drop-off event. Please plan to come and STAY with your children to enjoy dinner and a movie together. Food vendors will be there, but picnic dinners are welcome too. Bring some chairs or blankets, and prepare for an evening of free family fun.

Is your student bilingual or multi-lingual? If your student is designated as an English Learner, or even if you are just interested in the supports provided for these students, you are invited to join the English Language Advisory Committee. If you would like to serve on the ELAC committee, or are interested in more information, please email Mr. Horner at

The first School Site Council meeting for this school year is next week. See agenda and link below. All PTA Board Meetings and SSC Meetings are open to the public. Our school is partnering with San Diego Office of Education to form a school Equity Team. 7 Staff Members will be committing to this work to further develop equitable practices at Pepper Drive school. If you are a parent who is interested in being a member of this team, please contact Mrs. Bradbury at

Are you interested in learning more about how to better support your child through a group book study? We are hosting a parent book study around Thrivers: The Surprising Reasons Why Some Kids Struggle and Others Shine by Michele Borba, Ed.D. If you are interested or would like to know more, please email Mrs. Bradbury at Our first meeting will be held on 9/29 at 5pm at the school. We supply the books for free.

Hispanic Heritage Month Sept. 15-Oct. 15

At Pepper Drive, we take time to explore history and culture from different perspectives. We also celebrate the authors, historians, scientists and mathematicians who have contributed to the world around us. This month is Hispanic Heritage Month. Mrs. Reyes has a wide selection of books in our school library with authors, illustrators, and topics from around the world. She loves to help students finding books of interest, so encourage your students to ask.

Access Student Score Reports

2022 Spring CAASPP Student Score Reports and English Language Proficiency assessment (ELPAC) scores are available online. The state used to mail these scores out to your home, but that is no longer their practice. Reports are stored in the Parent/Student PowerSchool Portal. To access the report, follow these steps:

  • Go to the PowerSchool Portal login page at
  • Sign in with your PowerSchool credentials
  • Click on “Score Reports” in the left menu
  • Select 2021-2022 school year
  • Click “Get Report”

Volunteers Needed

The Scholastic Book Fair will be back at Pepper Drive Oct 10-13. If you are an approved Volunteer and are interested in helping with the Book Fair, please click this link to volunteer. Mrs. Reyes, in the library would like to have 5 Volunteers for each time slot.

Parking Lot Safety

For the safety of all our students, their families and the staff, please SLOW DOWN. We have students and families walking in crosswalks who have narrowly missed being hit by cars that run the red light or rush ahead without looking. Please use an abundance of caution when approaching the school.

Safety Patrol starts next week. These are students who are trained to use whistles and stop signs to help peers to cross at the Marlinda Ave crosswalk. Please be patient with these students as they get used to the job, and do not ever have your car in the crosswalk while students are crossing.

Arrival and Dismissal: Please remember there is no staff supervision in the morning until 8:15am (8am for breakfast). Do not drop off students before that time. Also, if you are picking up students for 2nd dismissal, you will be asked to keep driving (out of the loop) if you arrive at the pickup area before 2:35. We must allow the time from 2:20-2:35 for the first dismissal parents to pick up. If you arrive early, park in the lower lot, then rejoin the line at 2:35. We appreciate you helping our lines run smoothly.
