COMPASS & OPTIONS SCHOOL NEWS
ACTIVITY LOGS ~ Activity Logs are used to take attendance at CCS and this year we will be completing Activity Logs for attendance in ParentSquare. Similar to last Friday, every Friday morning you will receive an email from ParentSquare inviting you to complete that week’s Activity Log. Click on the link in the email, then choose your scholar’s name from a drop-down box (if you have more than one scholar you will need to complete a separate form for each scholar). Next, check off the educational activity boxes for each day to identify what your scholar completed that week. Learning coaches will need to sign and date the bottom of the form before submitting. The Activity Log for each week will be due the following Tuesday. If you have any questions on the Activity Log process, please contact your educational facilitator.
CCS VOTED LOS ANGELES’ FAVORITE CHARTER SCHOOL ~ CCS of Los Angeles was voted Los Angeles’ favorite charter school by local residents for the 2018 Readers Choice Awards hosted by The Los Angeles Daily News. Read the full announcement.
ISTATION TESTING ~ Istation is a computer-adaptive diagnostic for reading and mathematics that pinpoints scholar needs, and contains ongoing progress monitoring showing whether scholars are on track to achieve end-of-year targets. These assessments and instruction will help our staff support academic growth for each scholar. The results from the Istation Diagnostic will help learning coaches understand what their scholar knows and remembers from the last school year, and help them pinpoint what skills might need more attention this year. It truly is meant to help your EF and you better support your scholar’s learning this school year.
PARENTS & SCHOLARS RESOURCES ~ Visit our website for a number of resources for our scholars, learning coaches and families. Click the blue button labeled “Parents & Scholars” and then use the password “loveCCS” to access the page. You will find information on academics, field trips, technology, records, counseling, and more.
SCHOLAR IDS ~ Compass will be offering Scholar ID Cards for the 2018-19 school year. Visit the Welcome Back Packet, page 5, for more information on how to submit your scholar’s photo to the Community section of the PSP. The deadline to submit photos to receive a Scholar ID Card is Tuesday, September 25.
SEPTEMBER IS ATTENDANCE AWARENESS MONTH ~ This month we are supporting Attendance Awareness Month by raising awareness about chronic absence. Nationwide about 1 out of every 10 children are chronically absent, which means they miss 10 percent, or about 18 days, of school in a year. We are inviting all of our learning coaches to join us by helping their scholars attend each of their classes, and on time. Having good attendance helps children do well in school and eventually in the workplace. We want all of our scholars to be successful and we ask that you join us as we raise awareness for this important cause and start the 2018-19 year on a positive foot.
