Drop off & Pick-up Reminders
I know drop off and pick up can be a hectic time of the day and I know our space is limited. As a reminder, the apartments that are in front of Heim are private property. Therefore, parents may not park there, even for a short period of time to drop off or pick up students. We greatly appreciate your cooperation in this matter.
Developing Language
Teaching Communication Skills while Putting Away Toys!
We can work on communication during our whole day, including the time we spend cleaning up our toys. As we put our toys away, we can pretend they are going down for a nap and say, “Night night kitty; Night night, Teddy Bear; Bye Bye, Dolly; Bye Bye Books.” We can talk about our movements by using action words like: clean up, put in, pick up, close, open. As we look for toys we can talk about where the toys are “hiding” – we can say, “the teddy is hiding under the table,” or “The book is on top of the chair.” We can also ask our little ones to follow directions like, “Let’s put all the blue toys away,” or “Bring me the book,” or “Let’s look for green toys.” One more way to make tidy up time fun is to add sound effects. As the toys are put into their baskets or where ever they go, make sounds like “Plop! Crash! Boop!” This keeps things light and happy but also helps teach great skills!
