Principal's Message
Dear Families,
Our Spring Parent-Teacher conferences are just getting underway. I hope that you enjoy connecting and collaborating with your child's teacher during your scheduled conference. All conferences are virtual. If you have trouble connecting to the conference, please contact our office at 503-256-6531. We will assist you to the best of our ability. Conferences can also be done over the phone if needed.
Students are now officially on Spring Break. We do not have school Thursday or Friday due to conferences. School will resume on Monday, March 28th.
There is a lot of great information in this week's newsletter! Please be sure to mark important dates coming up.
As always, please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

One week left to provide your input!
Our District is preparing to adopt new K-12 Language Arts curriculum. The curriculum will be used in classrooms beginning fall of 2022 and last for the next seven years. We’re in the final stages of our review process and we need your help! Community input is a very important part of the selection decision.
Two curricula are being considered at each grade level. For details about these choices and to view sample materials, please visit our Language Arts Adoption Resources webpage. Then give us your feedback through the surveys linked on that page. We are accepting survey responses through Monday, March 21.
GP Site Council Meeting Notes
Our school building Site Council recently met on March 4th. During the meeting, we discussed how best to spend our professional development funds in a way that supports the goals we identified in our School Improvement Plan. We discussed where we are in the English Language Arts adoption process. There is interest in finding out if there will be a parent demo account when we finalized our selection. We are in the design process for our school mascot, the sea otter. We have many ideas for branding our school and offering merchandise to get students and families excited about the change. We looked at some of the Youth Truth Survey results. There were some positives in the area of students and families feeling respected by school staff. Areas of concern are bullying and feeling safe in specific areas of the school. There were no safety notices to discuss.
Gilbert Park Intercambio
We are excited to get our Gilbert Park Intercambio sessions going again!.
Intercambio is a language exchange meeting space for Spanish and English-speaking people to practice another language in a conversational, informal setting.
Our mission is to implement Intercambio for school and community members to develop relationships, and foster communication between diverse groups.
Our first meeting will be Wednesday, March 30th - 3:45-4:30 in room 22 here at Gilbert Park.
Scholastic Book Fair Success!
Thanks to your contributions we raised $2,765 in SCHOLASTIC DOLLARS™ for our school, which we will use to purchase books and materials for our classrooms.
Our reward for hosting a Book Fair is watching your kids discover new books. All that joy wouldn’t be possible without volunteers from our school community – you deserve our special thanks.
If your child missed out on the Fair (or already finished every new book), there’s still time to shop! Our Book Fair will continue online through March 16th. Your online purchases benefit our school. Click below to shop our Fair:

How Are We Doing?
We love to hear your feedback!
We have created a short (2 question) form you can use throughout the year to tell us how we are doing.
