Letter from the Principal

To Our Teeland Families:
Happy New Year!
TMS is hoping this newsletter finds your family enjoying the Winter Break! We certainly have enough snow this year for all kinds of outdoor winter fun!
Report cards for semester one will be posted on ParentVue after students return to school on January 12th. If you are concerned about your student’s progress or are wanting a schedule change, please reach out to their counselor the first week we return. Angie Buresh is the counselor for students with the last names L-Z, and Mikael Porcello is the counselor for students with the last names A-K. We will still be offering Homework Club and Math Lab for students to receive academic support after school during semester two.
Wrestling, JNYO, and 7th/8th grade Volleyball start up on January 9th, the first Monday we return to school. Students will need a current sport physical and will need to sign up on Planet HS to join. All students in middle school make a team and being involved is the ticket to building a strong connection to school.
Each quarter, TMS holds grade level assemblies to recognize academic achievement and student involvement. Last quarter we had 233 students earn high honor roll grades, a 3.5 or higher. I’m excited to see what that number looks like for quarter 2! Many of our students also made significant gains in their math diagnostic assessment from fall to this winter. We are proud of their progress!
Your children are amazing and appreciated! Thank-you for your support and know that we enjoy seeing your kids every day in school!

Teeland Titans win at Robotics Tournament
Congratulations are due to the Teeland Titan F.I.R.S.T.® Lego® League robotics teams for their performances at the Superpowered South Central FLL Challenge Qualifier on Dec. 17th. They did an awesome job!
This tournament scores performance in four events: Innovation Project, Robot Design, Core Values, and Robot Performance. Each event is ranked separately and the event rankings are added for a total score. More details about what this event involves are in a longer article at FLL In A Nutshell.
Teeland’s Terminators won the Robot Design trophy and placed in the top four total scorers. The Banana Botz won the Robot Performance trophy and the tournament Champion Award. Both teams were invited to compete in the state tournament on January 14th.
What makes me most proud as a coach is that all of our kids represented our school very well. The Lego Men encountered multiple unexpected obstacles, but they rose to the challenge, re-wrote their programs from scratch and presentation, and did their best.
All of our kids worked hard, tackled and overcame challenges, and had fun together. They made me proud!
