Mission Statement
Principal's Message
Dear SMG Families and Friends,
This is the time of year when the calendar becomes increasingly full as there is so much going on at SMG over the next several weeks. Please be sure to read through the information in this week's Trojan Times to keep up to date, especially noting the long list on the calendar at the end.
Our 7th Grade students and their teachers will be heading to Austin bright and early tomorrow morning. Once there, they will be touring the Bob Bullock Museum, seeing the play Shipwrecked at the Texas Spirit Theater, and visiting the Texas State Cemetery and the State Capitol. A big thank you to Coach Rose, Ms. Jordan, and the parent chaperones who will be attending this fun and educational day with our students.
On Wednesday, I along with the 8th Grade students and teachers, will be attending Vocations Day and the 8th Grade Mass at St. Patrick Cathedral in Fort Worth. The day will begin at 10AM with students spending time listening to the vocation stories of priests and religious from the diocese, and will conclude with a special Mass at 2:30PM celebrating the 8th Grade class as they transition beyond elementary school. The Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Olson and other priests from the diocese. The day is for students only; students will arrive back to SMG at approximately 4:30PM that afternoon.
On Thursday, we will host another Pre-K and Kindergarten Open House event from 4-5:30PM. If you know of any family or families who may be interested in learning more about our Early Childhood program, please encourage them to call Mrs. Malloy or Mrs. de la Pena for more information and/or to rsvp for the open house.
Also, happening on Thursday evening, our spring Dine-Out Night event at Spring Creek BBQ. What a great way to get a night off from cooking and enjoy great bbq and fun while supporting our school~we hope to see you there!
Speaking of barbeque, check out the information below on the Stephen Breen Memorial Foundation's BBQ Cook-Off that will take place on Sunday, April 28th at Nolan Catholic High School. With all of the construction that is currently taking place on the Nolan campus, the SB Memorial Foundation had to slightly change the format of the annual Spirit Games, which normally includes games and events all over the campus. In keeping with the spirit of Spirit Games, the BBQ Cook-Off will take place and is sure to be a lot of fun! The day will include Mass celebrated with Bishop Olson, games, and the cook-off. The Stephen Breen Memorial Foundation does so much to support all of the Catholic schools in the Diocese of Fort Worth. Please plan to support this event by attending and/or competing in the cook-off!
Have a great week ahead!
St. Maria Goretti, Pray for Us!
Blessings,
Laura Behee, M.Ed.

Private School Interscholastic Association
Congratulations to all of our inaugural PSIA contestants! Students were acknowledged and celebrated for their accomplishments during Monday's AM assembly. The Private School Interscholastic Association (PSIA) is an extracurricular academic competition program for elementary and middle school students. Participating in PSIA provides an exciting opportunity for private school students to engage in academic competition with their peers throughout the state of Texas.
Special congratulations to the following three students who placed in the top 10% of their category.

Spring Creek BBQ Dine-Out Night!
Third Grade Field Trip
Third grade had an enjoyable morning at Will Rogers Auditorium for a production of "Aesop’s Fables”, a fast paced theatrical production for elementary students. This popular play is a proven winner with young audiences as Aesop's most beloved animal characters come to life in "The Tortoise and the Hare", "The Lion and the Mouse" and "The Ants and the Grasshoppers". These fun stories teach students teamwork, friendship, sharing, kindness, the importance of hard work and other life lessons through the famed wisdom of Aesop.
1st Grade Readers Theater
Reader's Theater Scripts adapted from leveled readers give students essential practice in oral reading fluency and public speaking. The scripts also provide an opportunity for group interaction and student cooperation. The First grade class entertained Pre-K and Kindergarten with a reader's theater presentation of Jack and the Bean Stalk and The Three Billy Goats Gruff.
Ladybugs Have Arrived!
Pre-K has been eagerly awaiting the delivery of a very important package. With the arrival of our ladybug larvae, students will begin studying the ladybug life cycle. Did you know:
- The ladybug life cycle is not much different from the life cycle of a butterfly. The ladybug goes through the same four stages as a butterfly, the egg stage, the larvae stage, the pupa stage, and the adult ladybug stage.
- After a female lays her eggs, they will hatch in between three and ten days, depending on ambient temperature. The larva will live and grow for about a month before it enters the pupal stage, which lasts about 15 days. After the pupal stage, the adult ladybug will live up to one year.
PK4 and Kindergarten Pounder Project Presentation: Add Rice and Beans to Your Grocery List!
A representative from Catholic Charities visited with SMG students to explain the Pounder Project. When students take part in a service project, they learn the importance of helping others. Pre-K and Kindergarten students will each collect rice and beans in the amount of their birth weight as part of the Catholic Charities Pounder Project. The bags of rice and beans will be wrapped in onesies and baby blankets and will be donated to help Catholic Charities clients. Remember to add rice and beans to your grocery shopping list. Information on project due dates will be included in grade-level newsletters.
Rice Bowls
Journey through Lent as a family using the daily Lenten Calendar and the CRS Rice Bowl App. Put your Lenten sacrifices into your CRS Rice Bowl.
Rice bowl money is due Monday, April 15th. Parents should write a check for the amount in the bowl rather then sending in coins. Thanks for your participation and help.
You may visit www.crsricebowl.org/schools for additional information and stories of hope.
