CFIE Mission:

The Carolina Forest International Elementary (CFIE) community is accountable for educating and empowering our students to make a difference in the world.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS FOR THE WEEK AHEAD!

  • Please keep your child's lunch account up to date so they have enough money on their account to purchase their breakfast/lunch and, if you allow, snacks can be purchased too- OCS Nutrition makes it easy by having a way to make payments online! Did you know that meal charges left unpaid follow your child each year? When they get to middle and high school, students who owe money for meal charges may not be able to try out for extracurricular activities like sports and may not be permitted to walk the stage at graduation unless these charges are paid! If you think you may qualify for free or reduced meals, please complete the online application (http://www.lunchapplication.com/). Be sure to also send money for meals while you wait for the decision on approval!
  • January 30 - Meteorologist, Les Still, talks weather with 2nd and 5th grade students!
  • January 30 - LAST DAY to turn in CCCC field trip form- only 50 students from grades 3-5 will get to go!
  • January 30 - Kindergarten students are allowed to dress as Kings/Queens on Monday to celebrate the end of their CKLA knowledge unit. No staffs, swords, weapons, etc. allowed.
  • January 31- APEX Student Kick-off! Check out PTO News below for more details!
  • Tuesday, January 31st & Thursday, February 2nd - 4th and 5th grade students take the NC Check-Ins Assessments! Please ensure student have their laptops, the laptops are fully charged, and students are on time for school!

PTO NEWS! APEX is Coming!

Our Apex REMIX Fitness fundraiser and leadership program kicks off on Tuesday, January 31st!

Our Apex REMIX Fitness event fundraiser and leadership program begins next week!

We love the amazing leadership and character-building portion of the Apex program as it focuses on developing student self-control and interpersonal skills that are vital for school and life success. With this year’s #ApexXFACTOR theme, students and staff will be immersed in an epic two-week adventure where they will discover the mystery of the X-Factor and reveal the true leader that lives within them! These quick, engaging lessons tie in with our schools’ vision and mission, encourage students to create a positive environment, and inspire them to lead by example.

✅ : The Apex REMIX Fitness Event will be held on Friday, February 10th!

More info on how to make a pledge to support our school will go home next week!

Third Graders Extending CKLA Unit through Technology & Hands-On Applications!

Third graders have recently explored The Viking Age in their CKLA reading unit! Students in Mrs. Duran’s, Mrs. Martin’s, and Mrs. Riggs’s classes have taken what they learned and are applying it to a culminating learning experience!

In Mrs. Duran’s and Mrs. Martin’s classes, students are using Minecraft Education to build a Viking Village! They created a class rubric to guide the must-haves, but were also able to add on additional pieces to their village based on the knowledge they gained from this unit! In addition, students will later be able to use their village creation to apply math concepts like area and perimeter! Thank you to Mrs. Mundy, our DLTF, in helping guide teachers and students with this Minecraft experience!

In Mrs. Riggs’s class, students are using a character description and how their actions contributed to the story to design the viking ship that the character would have! This is a hands-on experience where students are repurposing empty tissue boxes to create their ships!

All classes showed 100% of students fully engaged with conversations on what they learned and what they inferred based on the text!

COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS!

Coastal Carolina Community College Dental Program Offers Free Opportunity to CFIE Students!

“CCCC’s Dental Program has partnered with Give Kids A Smile to provide preventative care for children in our community.” They have received funding to offer 50 CFIE students from grades 3-5, free sealants. “Sealants are a white material placed in the grooves of teeth to prevent cavities. The cost of this service is typically $40 per tooth, but will be provided to [CFIE’s 50] children for free on their Sealant Day.” Fourth and Fifth graders were first to get the permission slips last week and third graders’ permission slips went home today. Only the first 50 students to return a completed and signed two-sided permission form will get this great opportunity! This event will take place on February 3rd at CCCC (so students also get to see a college campus)! If you want your 3rd, 4th, or 5th student to participate, have your child turn in form asap, but no later than January 30th. Again, only 50 students will have this opportunity- will it be yours?

Volunteer Opportunities at CFIE/ Be a Field Trip Chaperone!

There are opportunities to volunteer if you are not currently fingerprinted like proctoring the EOGs; helping in the library shelving books; cutting out manipulatives and bulletin board items; helping with our garden upkeep, helping with celebrations; cultural/career presentations….- if you wish to help in these kind of activities, reach out to our PTO at carolinaforestpto.gmail.com! When volunteering in this capacity, you will still need to report to the office first and bring an ID card to be checked into the school’s security system in order to account for everyone in the building in case of an emergency.

In order to be a volunteer at CFIE to work directly with students, including being a parent chaperone for field trips, the following process must be followed and approval obtained from District Office after a background check.

First, you must complete the the following form and seek Mrs. Hill's approval and signature-
