Colleyville Cowboys Parent Newsletter
Our CES staff has PURPOSE. We have all read author Jon Gordon's book, One Word, and have chosen our words for the year.
These words will remind us of our purpose and fuel our passion!
One word can change everything!
Due to the generous students, parents and staff that gave to our "Helping Hands" before the holidays, we were able to give each custodian and each nutrition services worker a little over $200 to make their holidays a little brighter. Thank you! You should have seen the smiles on their faces and how grateful they were!
Please remember to drop your students off in the gym/cafeteria each morning if they arrive to school before 7:35 am. We ask that they not wait in the main hallway until the bell rings (even if their parent is with them) due to congestion. We have a system coming out of the gym/cafeteria and do not account for students/parents standing in the main hallway. Thank you for your understanding and support of our school procedures!
Tomorrow, Monday, January 15th is a school holiday. We look forward to seeing the students on Tuesday, January 16th at 7:35 am! Have a great rest of your day. :)
Sincerely,
Sheila Shimmick
Principal, Colleyville Elementary School

News from Nurse Rudolph
Dear CES Parents,
Cold and flu season is among us and is hitting pretty quickly and pretty hard. It will be very important during this time of year to be sure to keep your student home if he/she is ill. Please remember that your student is required to stay home for a minimum of 24 hours once fever, vomiting, and/or diarrhea has subsided without any assistance from medications. If your student is sent home from school with any of these symptoms, the same expectations apply.
With that being said, it is always best practice to keep your student home if he/she is still obviously ill after any fever, vomiting and/or diarrhea has subsided. For instance, many times with flu it takes up to 5 days or longer to really be back to feeling better.
If you do keep your student home, it always helps if you call the office or email the teacher to let us know in order for us to keep up with what is going around in the school. Also, don't forget to send the doctor note or a hand written note back with your student once he/she is well enough to return.
There are measures you can take in order to help your student avoid getting ill during the year:
- Frequent hand washing
- Remind them to avoid touching his/her face. The mucous membranes of the eyes, nose, and mouth are how a majority of illnesses enter our bodies.
- Do not cough or sneeze into his/her hands; use a tissue or bend of the arm
- Avoid others who are known to be ill
Below are a couple of great resources to help guide you in talking with your student about "hand awareness" and the "T-Zone" and hand washing:

Thank you for all you do in helping keep CES a healthy learning environment for our students!
