The Pershing Elementary Newsletter
Good Evening Pershing Families,
School begins tomorrow, August 11th, and we are so excited to welcome you to the new school year at Pershing!
School begins at 8:55a.m. and dismisses at 2:10p.m. On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, dismissal will be 3:25p.m. for kindergarten through 6th grades. On Thursdays, dismissal is at 2:10p.m. Transitional kindergarten is a half-day program and is dismissed at 12:15p.m. every day. Being that we start on a Thursday, please remember dismissal is at 2:10p.m. on the first day of school. Friday, dismissal is at 3:25p.m. The Bell Schedule is linked and posted below, as well.
The multi-purpose room (also our cafeteria) opens every school day at 8:30a.m. for breakfast service and supervision. Yes, meals are free this year, but yes, you need to also fill out the forms online in the Parent Portal for the Federal Meal Application and/or the School Funding Form. Filling out these form helps to provide additional resources and funds for our school programs. If you are not eating breakfast, please arrive after 8:40a.m. We will have optional early morning programs beginning in about 1 week - more information to come very soon!
Teachers assignments have been made and can be viewed through the Parent Portal as of Monday, August 1st. To verify enrollment, view teacher classroom assignments, to update emergency contacts and parent contact information, please to go:
Class assignments (teacher name) can be viewed under “Advisor” after you click on the plus sign next to your child’s name.
Please be sure to also click and complete the “Re-enrollment” which is located in the upper right hand corner. There are several sections. When you are completely done, it will have two green “Re-enrollment Complete” labels marked on the right hand side of your child’s information. Please do this for each student. If you have any questions or challenges, please contact our office team. Celeste Whedon, school secretary, or Tammy Hart, attendance clerk, can assist at 916-979-8076.

This is a parent only event to help parents connect and learn about the school year with your child's teacher. Back-to-School Night is an important opportunity to help parents become well-informed about classroom routines, homework, communication plans, and to have an opportunity to ask questions.
September 5: Labor Day - NO SCHOOL
The COVID-19 Safety Protocols are the same now as they were when we ended the school year in June. This year, if a child has been out due to symptoms, and needs to clear early to return, parents may call the office to schedule an appointment for a COVID test for their child the next day, as we will only be testing those who have made appointments. For more information, please visit
COVID-19 Guide: Safe Learning Options and Supports. Most importantly, if your child does not feel well, please call our office and share with us your child's symptoms, and have your child stay home until feeling well and cleared to return.
COVID Home Test Kits: Our office has free COVID-19 Test Kits for use at home that families may pick-up in the office. If you cannot come to the school office between 7:30a.m. - 4p.m., but you would like your child to bring a kit home, please call our school office to make arrangements. Home test kits are not eligible to clear to return to school after being symptomatic, but are a great tool for monitoring symptoms or exposures.
