History

It was the Chayyana of Hispanic-Arabs.

The municipality of Jayena, in the development of historical events, has been closely linked, as all of this area of Western Granada, Alhama de Granada and, like her, has seen long-time Muslim rule, the back Christianisation after the wars of Granada and in the nineteenth century, the presence on their land of Napoleon's troops during the war of Independence; however, the town center where the old village was based was destroyed by the earthquake of 1884, and the current data of the late nineteenth century, and was built thanks to the contributions received from Spain and the strong support of King Alfonso XII.
