Message From Principals
Hello TLA Families,
Welcome back. We hope you enjoyed your spring break and had a smooth transition back into your normal routines and procedures. This week scholars dove into the learning and fun. We've launched a Proclamation challenge, in which the grade bands lead us in reciting The Lincoln Academy Proclamation on different days of the week, and we recite it as a whole TLA family on Monday and Friday. Scholars were so loud and enthusiastic that we couldn't determine which grade band gave the best performance. We'll have to take a closer look this week. Join us on Tuesday for the PLC meeting and help us decide how well our primary scholars recite it.
Quarter four is off to a great start. Progress reports go home on Monday. Make sure to check your email. High school parents, if your scholar received an "F" in English, Math, Science, or History class, they are required to attend after school Study Club on Wednesday per our Parent-Teacher Conference conversations. Please check your email, as all applicable parents have been notified.
Here's what's on the docket for next week.

Beloit Public Library - Children's Area Input
The Beloit Public Library is remaking its children’s area into Discovery PLAYce, a children’s-museum-like environment that will have multiple hands-on interactive exhibits for kids ages Birth-to-6 and their families and caregivers. The library is asking The Lincoln Academy families for input. Please fill out this brief survey (https://forms.gle/tMifvEwNP4k1ioTHA) to help them determine how Discovery PLAYce might be most useful to you and your child(ren) before, after, or during school hours. To see an example of what Discovery PLAYce will look like, see Storyville here (click on the pictures to take a virtual tour): Storyville - Baltimore County Public Library (bcpl.info)
Thank you for helping our neighbor create a magnificent learning experience for our scholars and their families!

First Grade - Sending Love to Linc
This week we learned about the primary source: envelopes. We learned all about envelopes, addresses, stamps, and how to address the envelope to send a letter!
We decided we needed to send Linc some mail! Scholars addressed their envelopes, added the return address, a stamp, sealed them with a letter or picture, and "mailed" them to Linc the Lion!
Second Grade Scientists
2nd graders studied properties of materials and mixtures in Science. They did strength and sticky tests to find the best materials that would make a glue. They used their findings to design a final glue and made a picture frames.
Second Grade-Swim Lessons
Second grade will start their Swim Gym unit next week. We are partnering with the YMCA again this year to have every second grader go through the Safety Around the Water 8-week Swim Program. Scholars will learn basic swimming skills and life saving tips. Scholars will go to swim lessons on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for the next four weeks. Please send a swimsuit and towel every Tuesday. We will send them home on Wednesdays.
Culture Connection
Mr. Anderson's Message
Hello TLA families, we are learning the virtue of PERSEVERANCE. perseverance is “the ability to work through situations even when there are obstacles or challenges in the way” As we persevere through the rest of the school year be sure to remind your scholar to wear their proper uniform to school. Scholars should be wearing all black pants, socks, black belt, and school issued shirt. We have been noticing many scholars have been missing one or more of these items. Thank you for being part of the TLA family.
Career Chat with Ms. Benisch
Job Shadows
More Sophomores participated in job shadows this week! Scholars interested in hospitality careers shadowed with representatives at Geronimo Hospitality Group and Hendricks Commercial Properties. The scholars learned about culinary, business, finance, IT, and real estate. Thank you to Geronimo Hospitality Group and Hendricks Commercial Property for hosting our scholars! They all enjoyed it and learned a lot.

Today's Dreamers, Tomorrow's Leaders
Eleven female middle and high school scholars participated in the Today's Dreamers, Tomorrow's Leaders event held at the Powerhouse this week. The girls had the opportunity to use the etiquette lessons learned and show off their professional attire. Scholars were seated at tables with female leaders from our community. Keynote speaker, honorable Ashley Morse, shared her story about becoming the first black women to serve as Judge in Rock County. She talked a lot about perseverance and reaching for the stars. Thank you to the Stateline Boys and Girls Clubs for inviting us to participate in this event and also for the support of local businesses and female leaders to make the event possible.
