HERSHEY NOTES
August 18, 2017
FROM THE DESK OF MRS. FIELDS
Welcome to the 2017-2018 School Year! This is going to be a PAWsome year! Our school wide theme this year is Happy Campers! The highlight of this trail is a GREAT EDUCATION. We are looking forward to building a strong connection with you so that we can work as a team to ensure that your child grows academically and socially. Please don’t hesitate to call or email your teacher the minute you have a question or concern. My door is always open as well, so please, don’t be a stranger! Let’s work together to create s’more amazing Hershey memories!
There are many opportunities to get involved at Hershey. The media center is always looking for volunteers to reshelve books. Mr. Copeland, our art teacher, appreciates an extra set of hands when creating hallway displays of student artwork. Let your child’s teacher know if you have an hour or two to spare each week. We love to have parents listen to students read or help with math fact memorization. Making copies and assisting with bulletin boards is also appreciated. The office staff also has need of volunteers from time to time. Let Mrs. Leahy know it you are interested in helping in this capacity. If you have the time, we will fill it!
We would love to have you eat lunch with us in the cafeteria-but please wait a few weeks! It can be very difficult for your child to separate from you when leaving home and then again after a lunch visit. After your child is in a routine, this will be much easier for everyone involved! Remember- we are promoting healthy food choices, so we ask that no fast food be brought into the cafeteria. Thank you in advance for following this policy.
MRS. LEHMAN'S UPDATES AND INFORMATION
Hello! The beginning of the school year is always so exciting. I would like to introduce myself to our new families. My name is Mrs. Michelle Lehman. My role is the Student Services Coordinator. This role is very similar to a School Counselor. I am here as a resource and support for you and your child. Should you have any questions or concerns regarding your child's social/emotional/behavioral needs, don't hesitate to contact me.
SAFETY
DRILLS:
We conducted a storm drill and a fire drill this week. Your child knows exactly what to do in the event of a fire or storm or an unwanted intruder. You can help us keep our children safe by remembering to check in at the office each time you come to visit school.
ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL:
Bus and car traffic are separated between front lot (buses) and back lot (cars) during arrival and dismissal. By separting them we are much more likely to avoid any accidents at this high traffic time of day.
We ask that you use the drive from 300 N to access Hershey and avoid the side access drive (from 725 E) leaving it available for buses only during the hours of 8:15-9:00 and 3:15-4:00.
Car drivers should have a sign clearly displaying student's name(s) in the front passenger front window (clipped to visor is preferred). Cards for this information is available in the Hershey office.
HERSHEY PTO
Our 1st PTO Meeting is Tuesday, August 25 at 3:45 in the Hershey Media Center. All Hershey parents/guardians are members. There is no fee to be a member. Please join us to hear about our exciting plans for the 17-18 school year.

Thank You for taking the time to enroll and use these important tools.
SOLAR ECLIPSE
The Tippecanoe School Corporation wants to ensure the safety of all of its students during the solar eclipse Monday, August 21. While we want to embrace this exciting learning opportunity, the TSC is reminding its students and staff it can be very dangerous to stare directly at the sun. The TSC will follow guidelines for viewing the eclipse from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and NASA.
Click here to learn more about how the eclipse will impact operations at some schools.
