How to Have a Berry Good Summer
Summer is the season of berries and is a great opportunity to add a variety of berries to your diet as well as your child’s. Berries are rich in antioxidants, fiber, vitamin C, and low in calories. They provide many health benefits such as decreasing blood glucose, decreasing bad cholesterol, and boosting immunity. Strawberries are claimed as America’s favorite berry with blueberries as a close second but don’t forget about raspberries and blackberries!
When shopping for berries, make sure they are firm and bright in color. You can also buy frozen berries which are perfectly ripe since they are frozen immediately after picking. When washing, run berries under the sink with water and pat dry using a paper towel. Enjoy berries with yogurt, cereal, smoothies, or on their own. When storing, make sure berries are as dry as possible and placed in your fridge or freezer.
