Message from Principal Taylor
Preparation for Phase 2
On Tuesday, October 13th, the Board of Education voted 5-2 to enter Phase 2 of its reopening plan, which includes special populations of students to return to school starting Nov. 9. Students in Phase 2 include:
· Students receiving special education services;
· English Learners (EL) students;
· Students who have a 504 plan;
· Students who do not have internet access at home;
· Students who are homeless or displaced/living in foster care;
· Students who are children of CCPS employees; and
· High school juniors and seniors enrolled in the following Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses.
· Robert D. Stethem Educational Center: Virtual Academy (Grades 10-12), Automotive Technician, Academy of Health Professions Pharmacy Technician, Academy of Health Professions Physical Rehabilitation, and Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC).
· North Point High School: Automotive Technician, Collision Repair, Academy of Health Professions Certified Nursing Assistant, Construction Design and Management, Electrical Construction, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts (ACF), Manufacturing and Welding.
· Henry E. Lackey High School: ProStart program
· Maurice J. McDonough High School: *Dance program (all students)
· All high schools: Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute (MFRI) program
Based on these special population groups, Somers will have about 112 students reporting for in person instruction on November 9th. School administration, ILT, counselors, building and food services staffs, and several other teacher leaders are working together to review schedules, establish traffic patterns, create PPE powerpoint presentations and videos for staff and students, prepare classrooms.....just to name a few to ensure a seamless transition to Phase 2 as we possibly can.
Please know that I will as transparent as possible and provide frequent updates to make sure the Somers' community remains informed.

PTSO NEWS
This year may be a little different, but we on the PTSO Board look forward to supporting Somers teachers and students in any way that we can. No membership needed. We will post all our news here and on the PTSO tab of the school website. Occasionally, we will need your help. Volunteering one time is all it takes. PTSO makes it easy for you to volunteer in three ways:
· Donate an item requested
· Assist at a time-limited event
· Attend a Spirit Night
Sweet Street Donuts Fundraiser held on October 4th was a success!
Thanks to all of you for participating!
We are planning our next fundraiser in a similar fashion via Charles County food trucks in the Milton Somers parking lot. Supporting local food trucks keeps everyone safer from being packed inside a restaurant and these smaller local families need our support in these difficult times. Our plan is to offer dinner and dessert. Updates will be posted here.
