Rat snakes are one of the largest kinds of species of snakes with over 50 types. They can grow to be ten feet, but the average size of a rat snake is to be five to seven feet long. Most of the rat snakes are found to live in the northern hemisphere in the United States. Their main prey are rats, lizards, frogs, or any rodents that are small.
Yellow Rat Snake
Yellow rat snakes are found in the Northern hemisphere, mostly in United States. They are known to be less aggressive and nonvenomous. During dusk and the night is when they go hunting for their main prey, rats.
Black Rat Snake
Black rat snakes are the most common rat snake, they are found in the eastern part in the United States. They live around rocky areas or farmlands. Black rat snakes are aggressive, they like to avoid confrontation and will stay motionless. Their main prey is small lizards or frogs.
Texas Rat Snake
Texas rat snakes are found in southern United States, around swamps and forests. They hunt for small prey as in, baby lizards, small frogs, and rats. Texas rat snakes are known to be the most aggressive rat snakes around but are nonvenomous.
