Eternal be the Memory

of Brother George Angelakis

A message on the falling asleep of Brother George Angelakis

It was with great sadness that we bid farewell to Brother George Angelakis today. Brother George was an Ahepan for 52 years. It was two years ago this month that Brother George received his fifty year pin from the Supreme President at AHEPA Hall. Sadly due to logistics, we were not able to perform a traditional AHEPA memorial service but the memorial service at Saint George was befitting of our beloved Brother. His Eminence Metropolitan Evangelos of New Jersey presided over the ceremonies and spoke beautifully, to the character of Brother George. His Eminence also read comments written by Brother Spiros Spireas that also captured, so well, the essence of Mr. Angelakis' character.

One of my favorite memories of Brother George is when he would, during Great and Holy Week, join the chanters. The first time I heard him I thought that he was a Cypriot because he pronounced the word kai, "jai", but as we all know he was from the wonderful Island of Crete.

For me personally, Mr. Angelakis was and still is a great role model. He accomplished so many things and yet remained, always, the humble servant of God and a great steward of our community.

We pray that God will number him among the Saints and the Righteous. May his memory be eternal.

We offer our condolences to Mrs. Katina Angelakis, Brother Adam, Brother Niko, Eva (Angelakis) Golfinopoulos and their extended family.
