Baxter: Showing Kindness to All!

Car Tags *COMING SOON*
Families, thank you for your flexibility as we navigate shortening our carline in the afternoon. We are getting there! Coming home soon is a carline number for each student. Even if your student(s) leaves campus in another way, please hold onto this carline #. Beginning the week of September 25, our staff members that use the radios to call, will begin typing in numbers to alert students that their ride has arrived. This will reduce the issues caused by not hearing their names on the radios.
Nothing will change for families! You can help us by displaying your student # carline tag. You may also write your student(s) carline # on current issued MISD car tags as well. Please write these numbers in large black numbers to make them easily visible for our staff members (see the above graphic).
We will still require 1 of 3 car line tags issued THIS school year in order to pickup but the student(s) carline # can be written on the other tags issued by Baxter for the 23-24 school year.
Thank you for your help!!!
Anti-Bullying Program Preview
MISD is partnering with Youth Equipped to Succeed (YES) to present an anti-bullying program to elementary students, and parents are invited to attend an optional preview meeting. There will be two opportunities, and both meetings will be virtual. The graphic below includes a link to join the meetings.

Click the button to recognize a Baxter staff member for going above and beyond! We will share your shout-out with our entire staff on a weekly basis so we can celebrate those individuals together!
Hearing and Vision Screenings
1st, 3rd, 5th and all new to district 2nd and 4th graders will be screened over the next few weeks.
Please make sure that if your child wears glasses you are sending them to school.
If your student does not pass, they are re-screened 2-3 weeks after the initial screening. I
If you do not hear from Mrs. Martin (School Nurse), that means your student has passed their hearing and vision.
Mrs. Martin will contact parents and send home paperwork for students needing further evaluation.
Attendance and Truancy Prevention
Did you know?
School districts are required to notify parents of attendance requirements at the beginning of the school year. This notice must state that the parent may be subject to prosecution and the student may be referred to truancy court if the student is absent 10 or more days or parts of days within a six-month period. Tex. Educ. Code § 25.095.
Compulsory Attendance Law: Also known as chronic absenteeism, compulsory attendance includes excused absences, unexcused absences, and suspensions. Texas compulsory attendance law states a student must attend at least 90% of the school year to be promoted to the next grade level. Due to excessive absences/tardies, students may be subject to academic recovery outside of school hours to retrieve any academic loss.
Baxter Elementary School Hours: 7:30-3:15, doors open at 7:05 a.m.
Tardies
Warning Bell: 7:20 AM
Tardy Bell: 7:30 AM
School begins at 7:30 AM Students should be in their seats at this time. Students arriving after the tardy bell rings must be accompanied by an adult to the front office, sign in, and receive a tardy slip.

Campus Security and Visitors
Each of our campuses follow strict and uniformed access procedures. All visitors are required to visit the front office immediately upon accessing a school.
ALL ADULT VISITORS will be required to present a valid form of photo identification (State issued driver’s license, state issued identification card, passport, military identification card, etc.) to our staff each and every time they visit a campus. Staff will review the identification to ensure that visitation is authorized. This may include use of the Raptor Visitor Management system to ensure proper student contact, as well as scanning of state or county databases to ensure campus access is permitted.
Following approval, visitors will be issued a visitor pass that is required to be displayed on the outer clothing and clearly visible to staff while on campus. For example, if you visited the campus in the morning and returned in the afternoon you will be required to reprocess your visit with the front office.
All visitors are required to adhere to all campus rules while visiting. Failure may result in a visitor being asked to leave the campus. → this is per the MISD website linked below https://www.midlothianisd.org/departments/safety-and-security/campus-security-visitors
Things to Know!
- The doors open every morning at 7:05. The tardy bell rings at 7:30. We will be lenient the first few days with tardies. We know you are all getting accustomed to new routines and we completely understand. Once we get rolling with the new year, if you pull up in the morning and the staff has gone inside, you MUST get out and walk your student to the door. If there is no adult with a student the front office will not open the door.
- The campus is closed to lunch visitors until September 5th. ( See flyer below)
- School ends at 3:15.
- Changes to dismissal need to be in by 2:15PM
- If students are being picked up early, it must be done prior to 2:30p.m.
Be kind to our staff members, their number one job is taking care of kids and they're really good at it. Remember, your students are watching and listening to you. Please exude positivity and they will do the same. This is going to be the best year ever, I am very confident about that!
Be Kind in the Car Line!
Be kind in the car line, don't skip in front of people, merge, and take turns!
Please follow the traffic pattern for drop-off and pick-up.
Be courteous in the car line, do not cut in line. Do not cut on Park Place.
Merge safely and follow the route on Baltic

Hydrocephalus is a serious neurological condition characterized by the abnormal buildup of cerebrospinal fluids in the ventricles of the brain. We recognize Hydrocephalus Awareness Moth to encourage the development of partnerships between the federal government, healthcare professionals, and patient advocacy groups to advance the public’s understanding of the condition, improve the diagnosis and treatment of the condition, and support research for a cure.
