Corrective Action Plan 2020-2022
Every decision we make will protect the quality of classroom instruction and maintain class size requirements, as we create a world-class learning experience in every school, every classroom, every day.
Why Corrective Action is Needed Now
As the graph below illustrates, our district's fund balance has been decreasing over the last decade. There are many factors that contribute to the condition of the general fund balance, including state funding, unfunded mandates, unexpected expenditures and staffing overages.
Increases in revenue have been offset by cost increases related to benefits and a loss of FTE related to lower enrollment.
Even as more students enrolled in private and charter schools over the last 10 years, the district has largely retained the same staffing levels despite this drop in enrollment.

Advocating for Increased State Funding
Hillsborough County Public Schools will continue to work with our legislative partners to advocate for increased education spending, which is especially needed now in light of the pandemic.
What's Next
Please know that none of these decisions are made lightly, and that every decision we make will ultimately be in the best interest of our students.
This is a complex issue, and we want to provide as much information to parents and families as possible. Here are some Frequently Asked Questions related to this Corrective Action Plan. We have included a PowerPoint Presentation to the School Board. You can also watch the School Board Workshop here.
