Student & Family Update 08.16.22

Welcome to the 22-23 school year!

I am very excited to get to know all of our students and their families. Our staff has worked very hard to get the building ready and we look forward to seeing students walk through the doors. In order to best support our students this year, communication is key. We will send information throughout school year and always welcome feedback. In addition, please feel free to reach out with any questions you may have. Together we can make this year a success!

Save the date

We would like to welcome you to an open house on August 29, 2022 from 4-6pm. At this time, you will be able to view Port Susan Middle School, pick up a printed schedule, practice walking to classes, get the information you need to start the year off smoothly as well as join us for a barbecue provided by our PTO. There will be no formal presentation as this is simply a time for us to get together and welcome families into the building. We understand that not all families will be able to attend this event and that is definitely not a problem. As always, please continue to reach out with any questions or concerns you may have about next year as they come up. We are here to support you and communication is key!

office hours

Port Susan Middle office is open from 8:00AM-2:00PM daily. If you have any questions &/or need to drop off any items, this is a great time to do that. To reach us by phone, please call 360.629.1360

student schedules

We are working on cleaning up student schedules currently and finalizing our staffing. Please understand, at this time, they are not able to view until this has taken place. We plan to open up Skyward to view schedules as close to August 24th as possible. We'll communicate this information when they are ready to be released to view online.

Syward Family Access

In secondary schools, all grading and schedules are kept through Skyward Family Access. Both students as well as parents have an account. This can be accessed through a desktop computer or the Skyward app can be downloaded on any smartphone. For more information on how to access, please see the information and watch the video linked below.

Once schedules are active, students and parents can view them through this system.

FALL SPORTS interest

7th and 8th graders can now sign up for fall sports (Girls Soccer or Boys/Girls Cross Country). The 2022-2023 PSMS Registration Form is found here.

6th grade students, in addition to wrestling in the winter, will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of clubs. These typically begin midway through the first quarter so they've had a chance to settle into the school year.

**All students participating in athletics need a current sports physical every 2 years.

The YMCA will also offer a variety of sports and activities. You can find out that information on their website linked here.

School Supplies

While out school supply shopping, please reference the list below. We do not have student lockers at Port Susan Middle School, so keep that in mind as you are filling up those backpacks. Also, make note that teachers may request additional items for their specific class. In our office, we will have supplies available for students as needed, so don't hesitate to reach out.

Communication Is Key!

We appreciate all of the support from our Port Susan students and families. I will email another family communication Sunday, August 21st with additional information and weekly once the school year begins. These will be sent out by email on Sundays, but feel free to open and read the updates when it is convenient for you.

Also, please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions as we approach this fall. Thanks for your time!
