Sharing Second Grade
A Peek at Our Week
April 9 - 13, 2018
MATH:
2.2 - Students will continue the geometry unit this week. They will review partitioning circles and rectangles into two, three, and four equal shares, and describing the shares using words; halves, thirds, thirds. They will also continue to identify and write fractional parts of a whole. They will draw picture and bar graphs to show data and solve comprehension problems using information in the graphs. As always, continue to practice addition and subtraction facts at home!
3.1 - Students will be working on 3 different kinds of graphs: picture graphs, bar graphs and line plots. They will create the graphs, interpret the data and answer "how many more" and " how many less" questions based on the information. We'll also begin reviewing all the standards in unit 2 in preparation for the post-test. Please continue studying those multiplication facts.
3.2 - This week students will begin a new unit on geometry. They will identify plane shapes and describe their attributes. They will recognize that shapes in different categories can share attributes and draw examples. Click here for more information on the standards in this unit. Keep practicing addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts!
READING: This week students are concluding their work in their non-fiction book clubs. In this unit they have learned to identify the main idea and supporting details within a text. They have read several books on a topic and combined information from two or more books to tell more about their topic. They have also talked and written about a text to summarize it and to grow new ideas and questions.
WRITING:
Students are wrapping up the non-fiction writing unit. Students have learned to write a beginning that gets their readers ready to learn about a subject. They have organized the information in their by texts by writing details that relate to headings and connect to their topic. They chose expert words that teach their readers a lot about their subject.
SOCIAL STUDIES:
This week we will begin a new Social Studies unit . Students will learn about the lives and contributions of famous Georgians; Jackie Robinson and Martin Luther King, Jr.
