Principal Selection Update:
Wiley Families,
Dr. Thompson informed me last week that the principal selection process for Wiley will take longer than she initially communicated to the staff and community. I will be continuing as interim principal through early October. At that time, she anticipates naming a new interim principal who will support Wiley until a new principal is named. She plans to send the recommendation for the new interim principal to the WCPSS School board at the September 21 meeting. I appreciate your continued support of Wiley during this time of transition. If you have any questions, please reach out to me by email at dkearney@wcpss.net.
Regards,
Diann Kearney, Interim Principal

Late to School?:
It happens to all of us from time to time. If you are late getting your child to school (after 9:15), you must walk them to the front door and sign them in.
Masks:
Students continue to be required to wear masks at school and on communal transportation. Please send your child to school with a well-fitting mask that covers their nose, mouth, and chin and has at least two layers. Gauze masks or masks with ventilation valves do not meet the requirements outlined on the WCPSS website. The school will provide replacement masks as needed.
Student Illness:
If a student is sent home with symptoms of covid, please follow the when to return guidance listed on the WCPSS website. Students may not return without a negative covid test, an alternate diagnosis, or before the assigned quarantine period. Students living in the same home as someone with covid must follow the quarantine guidance even if the student tests negative. Please send the appropriate documentation to the student's homeroom teacher before returning to school.
Quarantined?:
If a student is in quarantine, they may access school work from their google classroom. Completing this work will allow students to stay current with classwork. Teachers will offer office hours to field questions and check in once a week.
Walkers:
Walkers may be dropped off in the morning by using the crosswalk at the bus loop. In the afternoon, you must park in the neighborhood and walk to the K-2 Playground to pick up your child. You must have a yellow walker card in order to pick your child up from that location. You may request one from your child's teacher or the front office.
Carpool: Carpool has been moving right along and we appreciate your patience. Please note, students are not allowed to be dropped off on the street. This presents safety hazards for your children and others. You may walk students in using the crosswalk on Calvin Street. Remember that carpool enters from College Place and Saint Mary's Street (not Calvin St). Trying to enter that way causes disruptions to the called names. We promise to keep things moving and following the carpool expectations will help us make it a finely oiled machine.

Happy first day, families!
The Cecilia Rawlins Fund would like to thank our Wiley family for their support during the economic upheaval of the last two years. Due to the Covid crisis, the number of families in our Backpack Buddies program ($350 per child in partnership with Interfaith Food Shuttle) more than doubled. During this time our supporters at Wiley responded to the unprecedented needs with generous donations; allowing us to answer the uptick in requests for hunger relief, rental assistance, utility payments, medical expenses and so much more.
Saludos,
Diann Kearney, Directora Interina
