Mrs. Brenda's 3rd grade Board
Find out what's happening in our classroom.
Learning together
Dear Parents,
We are currently learning about fractions in our third grade classroom. As part of our objective we want our students to grasp a clear understanding of what fractions are. We also want them to experience the learning of fractions in different ways in order to master the skill. Students will be assigned different activities in which they may need of your support.
Homework
To follow up our classroom learning, this following week our students will be having homework over fractions. Please, be alert in case your child needs any extra help while doing homework. Furthermore, there is an special activity designed for the weekend. The game includes worksheets, dice and colors. All these materials will be in you child's folder and there can be more than two players. Thank you for your support in your child's education.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Brenda Peral
Extra support understanding fractions
As parents, we worry when we see our children struggle with specific topics in math. The following website offers an article that suggests a particular way to help children with fractions using actual pizza as concrete examples of parts of a whole. At home, you may be able to use other materials or foods to help you while you enrich your child's understanding of fractions. Feel free to use the website childparenting.about.com for other concerns that you may have.

Response to Intervention (RTI)
Response to Intervention or (RTI) is an approach of multi-ties used by schools to the early identification and support for students who may be facing learning and behavior needs. The RTI process begins with high-quality instruction and universal screening of all children in the general education classroom. Struggling learners are provided with interventions at increasing levels of intensity to accelerate their rate of learning. These services may be provided by a variety of personnel, including general education teachers, special educators, and specialists. Progress is closely monitored to assess both the learning rate and level of performance of individual students. Educational decisions about the intensity and duration of interventions are based on individual student response to instruction. For more information about RTI contact school's principal or student's teacher.
