MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL LAMBERT

Dear Mariano Castro Parents,

There are twenty school days left until Winter Break! In these 4 weeks students will be working hard on the Trimester 2 standards for their grade. Please help by asking them about their learning each day and providing an area and time for homework each evening.

The second annual PTA Festival of LIghts is on Friday, December 7th from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. This is an amazing family event at Castro with piñatas, photos with Santa, delicious latin food, arts and crafts for the kids, and lights everywhere! Please join us to celebrate with other Castro families at this fun-filled event.

Best Regards,

Theresa Lambert, Principal

Mariano Castro Elementary

New visitor/volunteer sign-in system

After the Thanksgiving Break, we'll be rolling out new electronic visitor/volunteer sign-in systems at our schools. The new system will increase security by alerting staff to any potential concerns, as well as improve the accuracy and efficiency of the sign-in process. Instead of signing in on the book on the counter, you will be able to show your ID at the kiosk and have a visitor badge printed for you. There will be an extra step the first time you sign in yourself or your child (ex. after a doctor’s appointment) because the system will require a form of ID, such as a driver’s license; however, it will remember your information for the next time you sign in. Thank you for your patience as we learn to use the new system that will upgrade security at our schools.

STEMtastic online discussion is open

STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) is important for our students. The Mountain View Whisman School District is exploring what STEM opportunities the District can provide to students so that they feel prepared for high school, college and beyond.

We are exploring this topic through this open-ended, online exchange of ideas. Please check your email for the link at which you can share your input on what are the most important considerations we should keep in mind as we plan for future science, technology, engineering and math curriculum in MVWSD. Middle school students and staff members will be participating in their own version of this online discussion.

Apply for preschool now!

The award-winning MVWSD Preschool Program is currently accepting applications for both free, state preschool and fee-based spaces for the 2019-20 school year. The enrollment process will begin February 2019. We will be offering part-day and full-day classes to children who will be at least 2 years and 9 months old by September 1, 2019 until they are age eligible for kindergarten. Fee-based and full-day spaces will fill fast, so apply now! For more info go to www.mvwsd.org/preschool.

School meetings coming up. Open Enrollment for new MVWSD students starts Jan. 7.

Kindergarten information nights for neighborhood elementary schools are at 6 p.m. on Dec. 4. Please click here for a list of these events.

If your child turns 5 years old between September 2 – December 2 of the current school year, he/she may qualify for transitional kindergarten (TK). The info night for TK parents is December 11 at 6:00 PM at Theuerkauf Elementary.

For NEW students: Open Enrollment is from January 7-February 3 online. You can register your child for the 2019-20 school year when online registration opens on January 7 here: www.mvwsd.org/register. MVEF news

MVEF hopes you have noticed some new checkmarks on their signs outside the schools. Thanks to the hard work and dialing fingers of volunteers, board members, Superintendent Rudolph, and several principals at the Phoneathon, money was raised to ensure that every child in our district has access to art, music, hands-on science, athletics and more. If you missed the call, you can support your child and every child. Donate today at mvef.org/donate
