Today we wrote and drew about the month of December. We are proud to hang our work in our classroom for all to enjoy!

We are beginning a unit on shapes during math time. The children are learning to sort and describe shapes. They are also learning that shapes can be combined to form new shapes. We practiced this concept by playing a game with pattern blocks called filled the hexagon. Next week, the students will be learning about solid shapes (sphere, cylinder, cube and pyramid).

Mrs. Joyner has been teaching the children about bucket filling. When you fill someone's bucket, you are doing something nice for them. Some examples of bucket filling in our classroom are helping others clean up, using kind words and sharing. The students played a fun game during guidance time, which reinforced the differences between bucket filling and bucket dipping.

We have been learning about our 5 senses this week. The children used their sense of hearing and smell to figure out mystery items by just listening or smelling them. We also made kool-aid play dough! We used 4 of our senses when making it. The children had fun using the play dough at free time. I have included the recipe in case you would like to make it at home!

Kool-Aid Play Dough

3 cups flour

1/2 cups salt

1 tablespoon alumn

1 package Kool-aid

3 tablespoons oil

2 cups boiling water

Mix the ingredients together and form into a dough. Knead the dough adding additional flour as needed (until it is not sticky). Store in an air tight container.

Today was Ms. Ormsby's last day as our student teacher. We have really enjoying having her as a part of our classroom over the past several months. She has done a great job and will make a wonderful teacher. We had a going away party for her and gave her some gifts. The children wrote a book about her and we all signed a copy of The Dot for her to read to her own class!
