BASEBALL PREVIEW
Here are some words from Head Coach Joe Patterson.
We are excited for the upcoming 2024 baseball season. Our players have dedicated a lot of time in preparation for the season, including 7:00am workouts four days a week with Coach Brewer and practices since August. The 2024 Mustang Baseball team is led by a strong senior class. Spearheading the SR class is returning COAC PITCHER OF THE YEAR Jackson Pickelsimer. Along with Jack, Seniors Carlos Lopez, Maddox Lawson, and Carson Sawyer look to pick up where they left off as Juniors. We will lean on their experience and leadership this season.
Some underclassmen will look to make an impact this season as well. Juniors Kaden Williams, Kylen Dodge, and Blaine Fulmer all look to use what they learned in their sophomore year to become everyday starters. Dodge will be one of our District starters on the mound along with Pickelsimer, creating one of the better 1-2 punches on this side of the state.
The Broncos look to return to the state tournament this year. As it is an expectation of our program year in and year out.

BOYS AND GIRLS GOLF PREVIEW
Here's what Coach Meledeo has to say about his teams:
The Mustang Lady Broncos will be led by Seniors: Thalia Hoyos, Bailee Highfill, and Emery Bowers. These girls are familiar with the State Playoffs. My expectations for this team are very high. Our season will begin March 11 at Hidden Trails and our first goal is to win this tournament. I am looking forward to this year and with our experience and leadership from our Seniors, this team should be great!
The Mustang boys golf team will have returning starters: Zach Waller, Ty Gregg, and Nathan Benton. We have a lot of younger golfers fighting for a spot in the top 5. My expectations for this team are that our senior leaders strengthen their skills and influence the younger players through positive interactions. The goal for the younger players is to develop their skills in order to strengthen our team and create greater success overall.

Softball Preview
Coach Darity and her staff are excited for this season! Check out what she has to say about this year's team:
We are really excited for this slowpitch season and the opportunity to defend our state championship. There hasn’t been a repeat slowpitch state champion in 6A in 20 years, and with the team we have this season, we feel like we’ll have a great shot at it. We have everyone back from last season’s championship team, and have added some really athletic players this season. We are really looking forward to putting this lineup together, because we have a lot of talented and athletic kids and will have great depth throughout the roster. This team is going to be a lot of fun to coach with all of the pieces we have this season.
Emerson Pegram returns as starting pitcher for us this season. Emerson has been a starting pitcher for us the last two seasons, and pitched the playoffs with a broken leg last year. She is a tough, gritty competitor and we are so fortunate to have her back on the mound for her senior season. Eden Anderson is a four-year starter at third base and is our program’s current home run record holder. We expect Eden to hold down third base and continue to produce a lot of power and RBI’s from the top of the lineup. Alexis Kierstead, a very talented sophomore, will move to the infield this season after an exceptional freshman season that saw her set a new program homerun record with 41 home runs and be named the Oklahoman’s All-City Player of the Year. Seniors Mackenzie Sessions and Rylee Hannon return as senior leaders in the outfield and provide a great speed element to the lineup. Sophomores Reese Poage and Rylann Beeson and juniors Nyli Brown, Amelia Mason, and Madeline Rush are returning starters that all bring a great power element to the lineup.

BOYS SOCCER PREVIEW
Here is a message from head coach Jared Homer:
Our group had a tremendous summer and fall. We had a great turnout for the summer league where our guys grew and developed tremendously. We attended the ORU team camp in Tulsa this summer. We had a great showing there and carried that into the fall offseason. Our team continues to get bigger/faster/stronger in our weight training program under Josh Brewer.
We have 19 seniors in our program! That number is a testament to the development of our program as a whole. Many of these guys will have an impact in the first team, but several are great teammates, unbelievable in the classroom, and solid leaders. We return 8 starters from last season and look to build off a great season that ended too soon. This group is talented and hungry to make a deep run into the playoffs.

GIRLS SOCCER PREVIEW
We are very excited about this team's potential this season! As a new coaching staff coming in, we have instilled a "program first" mentality this offseason, challenging our girls to create and buy into our culture as a program. The girls have worked tremendously hard this offseason and we have seen great improvement, Competition has been high between our players. We want to train at the same level we compete at. Developing that competitive mentality and really embracing what it means to compete has been huge for this group this offseason! We are going to be a young team this year. We have a handful of returners who have provided great leadership and guidance, but we are ultimately excited to see all the hard work pay off on the field! The girls are eager to get season started! Go Broncos!

BOYS TENNIS PREVIEW
This year the team has spent a lot of time working hard on their academics, skills, and match play. Our athletes have dedicated a lot of their time on and off court to 6am practices, weights, the classroom, drills, and 1 on 1 skill development. I'm very proud of their hard work. I expect that this will translate into match-season, giving their 100% on the court until the last match is played, as they’ve been known to do since I met them last semester. Any Head Coach will, of course, want trophies and I'm no exception; I’m equally as happy to be part of the Mustang team and contribute to Bronco athletics. I'm excited to see where our season will take us.”

GIRLS TENNIS PREVIEW
We are excited to have three returning starters this year, the three new players joining our varsity are far from inexperienced.
We have two seniors this year who have who have been our go to leaders and are setting the pace for the other girls on the team. These two girls represented Mustang last year at state and our girls look up to these two. The coaching staff has given these two many responsibilities as leaders and they have never let us down. We are so thankful to has not one but two exceptional leaders.
Our younger athletes have big shoes to fill. They will be playing in high caliber tournaments. These players will have a lot of pressure on them throughout the year. We have an amazing coaching staff that will help prepare them for this challenge. The biggest piece of advice I’ve given these girls is to give all they have every match they play and to trust us and listen to our advice. We have lots of faith these younger girls will rise to the challenge.
This year is going to be challenging for our younger players that are going to be taking on a major role for our team but we have a lot of confidence in them.
Our varsity is primed and ready to hit the season at full throttle come March 1st.

BOYS AND GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD PREVIEW
The 2024 season should be a great year for both our Girls and Boys Track and Field Teams. We are fairly young on our girls side and have several veteran seniors on the boys team. This year the focus is on shifting the culture of the track program and establishing a standard that all of our athletes and coaches must uphold. It is important for our juniors and seniors to establish a standard of excellence for our younger athletes to develop within. We want our athletes to be successful both in the classroom and on the track. Our goal as a staff is to provide a team that the community of Mustang will be proud of. Winning will obviously help that happen even faster.
