Grace Episcopal School Vol. 1
A Message From Dr. Ricks
It was so good to see so many of you at Wednesday Chapel! PTF has been busy preparing for our fall events--Grandparent's Day, Book Fair, Evergreen Sales, and Fall Festival. These are rich traditions at Grace, and we need your support and good ideas.
Our Lower and Middle School Open Houses are set for early-September. The purpose of these sessions is to help you understand what your children will be learning this year and how they will be learning it; we hope that you find this time helpful. Please feel free to contact your children's teacher any time you have questions about their work.
With regard to that school work, homework and tests have started in earnest as we finish up our 2nd week of this 9 weeks. If your family is like mine, reviewing homework and preparing for tests took some time management on our part. Except for our preschool friends, everyone has a bit more homework this year than last. This is as it should be, but the first weeks can seem especially difficult. Keep in mind that homework is like working out--the more you do it the easier it gets. As the Head of School, I can assure you that your teachers' expectations of your children are reasonable and appropriate. As a parent, I can agree that it doesn't always feel that way! But, as teacher-leader, I am encouraged by the thoughtfulness that our teachers put into creating the best learning environment for your children. And again, please do not hesitate to contact your teachers if you feel confused or unsure about anything within classroom procedures.
Have a good evening,
Dr. Beth J. Ricks

What an exciting first week for GES Athletics!
The football team had an amazing game vs Claiborne Acad on Monday and won 6-0. With less than a minute to go, a Claiborne pass was intercepted by Ty Newman who ran 85 yards for a Gator touchdown and WIN. What a great way to start our season!
NEXT GAME Sept 10 (Thurs) vs JGS at St Freds field 6PM.
The GES cross country team had their first practice yesterday. 40+ on the team as we hope to have another great year running through the woods and on the trails. Megan Andrews will guide them in practices and meets all fall.
NEXT MEET Sept 12 (Sat) 3rd -8th grade runners only.
Middle School Strength & Conditioning started last Tuesday, and the students performed initial assessments to establish some baseline #s. We are all excited to start pumping the weights, and for our young athletes to show progress.
PE agility training continues from last year for grades 5-8 with Coach Dudley in the gym. These classes are learning agility training and footwork to better maximize their running and athletic skills.
MS Soccer and MS basketball will be starting soon so keep an eye out regarding deadlines.
Have a great weekend and we are #GATORPROUD!
