From our Principal
Dear Thunderbird Families,
I hope you all are hanging in there with distance learning and with everything else that is going on in California and the U.S., in general. I am happy to report that our teachers and staff are in a rhythm with this new way of teaching and learning. Having been to all of our classrooms, it is so great to see students and teachers building relationships virtually and students participating in discussions, showing their thinking, etc. I miss the kids! I know it is not easy for all students to feel comfortable on Zoom and our staff is working hard to engage students in meaningful instruction. Thank you for supporting your kids in attending, being present, and participating!
A big THANK YOU to all of you that signed up to be Room Parents this year!! Our teachers are very grateful for your support!
Monday, October 12th: NO SCHOOL (in lieu of Lincoln's Birthday AKA Indigenous Peoples' Day)
Wednesday, November 11th: NO SCHOOL (Veterans Day)
Take care,
Mr. Daubenspeck

Thornhill Annual Fund
Hello Thunderbirds,
By now you should have received last week’s email and a yellow envelope in the mail. We have officially kicked off the Thornhill Annual Fund (previously known as the Back to School Donation Drive)! We recognize that this is a tough time to get a donation request, as parents, teachers and kids are stretched in ways we couldn’t have imagined a year ago. The Thornhill Annual Fund is a tangible way that you can help provide an exceptional experience for all our students. Your donation funds our Librarian, Music Teacher, African Dance Instructor, PE Coach, Gardening Teacher, Social Worker, Three Teachers' Aides, and online learning platforms.
In a typical year, the Thornhill PFC fundraises and spends $1000 per student to make these resources a reality for our children. We are thankful for your donation of ANY AMOUNT. Our goal for the Annual Fund is for every family to participate at the level they are able.
Please use the form/envelope you received in the mail to donate by check. You can also donate online.
Families that donate (or set up their installment plan) in the month of October will receive a Thornhill baseball tee for each of their students.
Questions? Please check the website or email us at annualfund@thornhillschool.org
Thank you for supporting the Thornhill school community!
Adrienne Selke & Rianna Stoll
Co-Chairs, Thornhill Annual Fund

EBT SNAP and Amazon Partnership
Great news! Your EBT SNAP card can now be linked to Amazon Fresh and Pantry with delivery! It's a super easy process and makes fresh, healthy food available and accessible during these uncertain times.
And don't forget that anytime you purchase something from Amazon, make sure you're logging in through smile.amazon.com and you've selected Thornhill Elementary as your charity! Additionally, pick up your phone right now and activate AmazonSmile so you’ll never have to think about it again. We'll receive a percentage of every purchase, which will go a long way towards helping to fulfill our students’ and teachers’ needs simply by doing something you may be doing anyway!

About the Thornhill Newsletter
The Thornhill Parent-Faculty Club (PFC) eNews team publishes this weekly newsletter each Tuesday in the school year to communicate school, PFC and OUSD news, events and information.
Email submissions to our Newsletter Chair, Jill Evans, at newsletter@thornhillschool.org by 8 p.m. Thursday for approval—nothing sent after this will be included in the following week’s newsletter unless there are extremely compelling extenuating circumstances. It’s fine to include text in the body of the email with links and no formatting, and attach photos preferably as 150 x 150, 72 dpi JPG or GIFs only (not embedded in email or Word file). Submissions may be edited for spelling, grammar, brevity and clarity. Advertising and items not related to Thornhill are not accepted, as we need to keep the newsletter focused on need-to-know info for the community.
THANK YOU to everyone who submits articles and to PFC Board Members, Teachers, VPs of Communications Erin Proudfoot & Evie Nagy, PFC Presidents Rex Crum & Alicia Streight, and Principal Steve Daubenspeck. Member of Oakland Unified School District (OUSD).
