Cartoons for the Classroom
A lesson plan to guide thought-provoking discussions using a political cartoon is available each week, as well as an archive of past lessons.
Weekly News Videos
These "Weekly News Videos" on topics of high interest come with guiding questions to spark meaningful discussions among students.
Article of the Week
English teacher and literacy guru Kelly Gallagher leads his students through an "Article of the Week" to engage in close reading and to respond and reflect on a relevant, current issue.
Reader-friendly Format
The articles are presented in a format free from distractions and room for annotations in the margins. Questions at the end of the articles prompt students to reflect individually and as a group.

Teachers can sign up for a free account with Newsela to access a variety of leveled articles and primary sources in English and Spanish. Content is updated regularly.
Purdue OWL
Students can use the Purdue Online Writing Lab as a resource to format their essays according to MLA or APA style. It also provides a variety of examples on how to properly use in-text citation.
