Leader of the Pack - Principal's Letter

Welcome Back Wolf Pack!

Another exciting school year is upon us! As I have stated before in my email out to you, This school year is truly going to be great, because I can promise you that West Lake Middle School is going to be a place filled with excitement, passion, and project based STEAM learning. At West Lake Middle School we want each and every person that comes onto this campus to know they are valued and that they can accomplish anything they set their minds to.

To the students, I want you to know how much we care about each of you. You are the reason we come to work every day and you matter to each and every one of us. We are excited that we can bring back more of you to face to face learning with all the events that we missed out on last year. Our “Personalized Counseling” initiative will be in full force this year. We hope you have taken the time to get to know your counselors and met with them. They are always available for you.

To the parents and guardians, you are very important and we appreciate your support. Without you, the students will not reach their full potential. We value you and your opinions. We look to you as a partner in your child’s education. We are excited to work with you and to greet you with a smile every day and make you feel welcomed.

I look forward to meeting all of you at our Open House night, from 5:30-7pm, on;

  • Sept 15th for 7th Grade

  • Sept 22nd for 8th Grade

As you can tell, the car rider line is running smoothly now with your assistance and all busses should be balanced. All the lunches are running smoothly and the students are settling in well to being back face to face. Every year, it takes a week or so to balance everything and get the procedures and routines operating smoothly. The past couple of years have been interesting due to the pandemic. We have not been able to experience “school” as we would have liked to and all are getting used to it again. This year, we will hopefully be bringing back many of the things we were unable to do in the past two years. If this year seems to be difficult, it is just the growing pains of all returning to “normal.” I encourage all of you to take a moment and to let go of the worry by making sure our kids won’t lose this year.

Everyone is hungry for some joy and relaxation. Enjoy this year, take pictures of your kids in clothes they will outgrow by next year, attend the fun school events that will be upcoming, don’t stress about the small stuff and enjoy your families and make memories that will last you a lifetime.

Thank you,

Ken Hodgkinon Ed.D.

WLMS Counselor's Corner: Personalized Counseling & Counselor's Newsletter

At WLMS, we believe in a personalized approach to counseling. All students will receive two individual 1:1 meetings a year with their counselor. In these meetings, the students will have the opportunity to discuss their goals and aspirations, and discuss the options for their personal path in Humble ISD.

Additionally, the counselors will be working with students and teachers in the classroom to provide further avenues for student success. This partnership is designed to give Humble ISD students a unique approach to meeting their personal goals, career pathways, and setting a pathway towards success. Some of the topics that will be discussed with your student will focus on academic goals such as career exploration, CTE certifications and pathways and advanced coursework. Other topics will address social and emotional well being.
