Hurricanes

What is a hurricane?

A large storm that forms over a warm ocean water with very strong winds that blow in a circular pattern around the center,the eye,of the storm.



WOW FACTS

The eye of a hurricane can be very calm.Winds near the eye of the hurricane can reach up to 190 miles per hour.A large hurricane releases the energy of 10 bombs every second.


Safety Tips:

Stay inside,away from windows and out of a mobile homes.If you see a cumulonimbus cloud stay in a safe place.Make sure to have a safety kit in your home.


Tornado

What is a Tornado?

A small-funnel shaped cloud that comes down from a storm cloud with winds spinning at very high speeds. Tornadoes form when the air is right to when a storm is strong enough.


WOW FACT

Tornadoes can form hail.They are also smaller than hurricanes.In the U.S.,about 1,000 tornadoes touch down each year.Most tornadoes only last for a few minutes.


Safety Tips:

Stay low and cover.Have a fast evacuation plan.Make sure to have a safety kit in your home.

If you are outside try do find a ditch and cover your head.

Thunderstorms

What is a Thunderstorm?

A severe storm with lightning ,thunder,heavy rain,and strong winds.

Thunderstorms can blow over trees and large buildings.They can cause flooding.All thunderstorms produce lighting.The tornadoes in the U.S. are the most powerful.


Safety Tips:

Stay out of a mobile home and stay away from trees.Do not use water.Make sure to have a safety kit at home.
