Academic Supports at Thompson Crossing

Families—Please visit the TC webpage,, to view the parent letters for academic interventions in the areas of math and reading. These letters can be found on the left side of the main screen and explain that when a child is identified as needing extra support in math or reading at any point in the year, they will receive small group intervention assistance during either social studies or science. While we do not condone missing any subject, extra help that is needed in these two crucial areas of instruction must take place during some part of the day and FTCSC has decided that social studies or science is the time at the elementary level that the core reading and math instructional supports will be in place. This decision has been made by all levels of educators, K-12, based on the knowledge that reading and math are fundamental to the success in ALL subjects as students progress through high school. Students will not be graded based on assignments they miss during intervention time. In addition, extra efforts are made during reading and intervention to involve more non-fiction material that align with the SS or Science curriculum.

Events and Things to know...

You must call by 2:00pm if you are changing your students dismissal procedure. Teachers will not change the procedure of dismissal unless there is a note given to them or a phone call from the office received by 2:00pm. This is a safety precaution and we appreciate your help.

Imaginarium Happenings

In case you haven’t heard, The Imaginarium is the Art Room at TC! We are busy using our imaginations as we create! This month we have been working on pictures for Art to Remember. This is a fund raiser just for the art program to raise money for materials like clay, printmaking inks, and new paint brushes! Soon you will receive an order form showcasing your child’s art on many different products! You can order bookmarks, coffee mugs, phone covers, keychains, ornaments and many other items personalized with your child’s amazing art. These make great gifts! Keep an eye out for order forms in the coming weeks! I really appreciate your support!

Opportunities to create outside of class are coming up as well. Thompson Crossing’s Veteran’s Day Program is November 11th. We need art that honors and celebrates our Veterans and to greet them as they enter our halls. One work will be chosen for the cover of the program. Submit work on 8 ½” x 11” or 9” x 12” paper to Mrs. Billue by October 8th.

The Haunted House Art Contest sponsored by the Indianapolis Children’s Museum is another opportunity to get creative! See guidelines for the contest below. Pick up an entry form from Mrs. Billue.

Good luck and happy creating!
