This Week at CCES
August 26 - 30
Welcome Back to School!
I am honored to serve the CCES community, and to be a part of your family’s life. I have been in education for over 23 years, and a principal for the past 8 years. I always fall in love with my students and their families, and Boerne ISD has quickly proven that this is where I belong with such a warm welcome and amazing students, families, and staff.
As some of you have already learned, I believe that we are at our best when we collaborate, share, and learn from each other. Families give us new perspectives and ideas. I see myself as a partner in your child’s education, and I value your thoughts, and your opinions. As we move through the year, I look forward to meeting each of you. You can connect with me by phone, stopping by the school, or emailing me at krista.nail@boerneisd.net.
Finally, I want you to know that I have the highest expectations for all students and staff at CCES. The teachers in our classrooms are true artists, designing lessons that meet the needs of each child in their classroom. Although the year is just starting, I have already seen greatness as I visit the classrooms. We are raising the bar!
Have a wonderful week!

The Great 8 SEL Skills!
Dear Parents,
Over the next 2 years our district will be teaching the Great 8 SEL skills. This year we will be focusing on optimistic thinking, self-management, goal directed behavior, and relationship skills. Each skill will be taught through our guidance lessons, morning meetings and announcements.
This 9 weeks we will be learning about our first skill, optimism. We will discuss the importance of focusing on the good in our lives and finding the silver lining in every situation. We will also approach difficult tasks with a “can do” attitude. Being able to carry this learning on at home makes it even more effective! During the next 9 weeks, please take time to discuss optimism with your child. Share examples from your own life of feeling frustrated but being able to stay positive. Some questions you might ask include:
-Have you ever been disappointed but been able to “turn it around?”
-What are some positive things in your life you can focus on when things are going wrong?
-Why is it important to be optimistic?
Thank you so much for the support!
Hugs,
Mrs. Zuniga
From the Nurse
Here are a few helpful facts from the nurse’s office:
· Schools are required to exclude students with certain illnesses from school for periods of time as identified in state rules. For example: For a fever of 100.4 or greater a student must be kept home for 24 hrs. until they are fever free (without the aid of fever reducing medications).
· All medications must go through the nurse’s office and come directly from the parent, not from the student. For example: Do not send Tylenol, tums, or any medication with your child. All medications must have a Dr.’s order and be in their original container and kept in the nurse’s office (even over the counter medications). For further information regarding health or medications you can refer to our handbook online: http://www.boerne-isd.net
· Please keep a change of clothes in your child’s backpack in case of an accident (especially if your child is in Kindergarten or 1st Grade). Include: shirt, bottoms, underwear and socks. If your child comes home in clothes that are borrowed from the nurse’s office, please wash them and return them to the nurse.
· If you update your child’s immunizations, please give the nurse a copy of the new immunizations.
· If you change your phone number or address, please let the office know. That way we can reach you in case of an emergency.
· Now that your child is back in school, please keep your phone close to you, in case the nurse is trying to notify you. If you see this number on your phone: 830.357.4409 - it’s the nurse.
If you need to reach me, please feel free to call or e-mail me. Thank you!

Safety
- Talk to your children about using the cross walks when walking home from school. Crossing the street diagonally can be dangerous.
Drivers should leave plenty of space near cross walks when parking so there is plenty of room for adults and children to see oncoming traffic.
Drop students off in the front driveway only. Do not drop them off on Herff Ranch and have them cross the parking lot.
Visitors
- All visitors to our campus must check in at the office with valid photo identification. Please be sure to have your ID with you anytime you visit our campus.
Special Occasion Food
- All foods brought to campus for special occasions such as birthday parties, holiday parties, any special occasion MUST have an FDA approved label with ingredients and allergens legibly listed.
- Our school day begins at 7:25 a.m. The tardy bell rings at 7:35 a.m. We look forward to seeing your student on time each day.
- Dismissal is at 3:00 p.m.
- Please have your child attend school all day, everyday, unless they are sick. Please schedule appointments for after school whenever possible! We appreciate your suppport making the full instruction day an important part of your family's schedule.
- If your student is absent, please provide a written note upon return.
