Arnaudville Elementary

Lady Bears from Arnaudville Elementary participated in the Opelousas Jr High 2nd Annual Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, September 16. Congratulations to the Lady Bears with a 1st place trophy.

East Elementary

East Elementary invited grandparents to read to our students in honor of Grandparents' Day.

LeQuess Burney a third grader in Mrs. Bergeaux's class at East Elementary was recently recognized for acquiring 25 points in the AR program.


Eunice Elementary


Eunice High School

Eunice FFA Chapter completed a community service project September 16th at Tractor Supply by washing any dogs for the happy owner.

FFA Members are Shaylon Lemalle, Sara Higginbotham, Myra Simien, Avery Ortego, Jacqueline Nicholas, Josiah Doucet, Grason Lawson, & Tiler Deville.

Eunice FFA Chapter has begun donating bird feeders to local schools for habitat improvement and beautification to their campuses. Laura Lombas, Glendale’s principal is pictured accepting a few feeders from Eunice FFA member, Keith Rozas.

Glendale Elementary

Mrs. Huval’s 4th-grade class did a project on making brochures on different states and give important details about the state they were assigned. Pictured are the students showing their finished work. Great Job Students!

Grolee Elementary

Mrs. Darby, a 5th and 6th grade Math teacher received a grant for the Reflex Math program. Students pictured are working on the program during RTI.

Students in Ms. Stelly’s first-grade class watched the life cycle of a butterfly. This week, they were able to see the butterfly come out of the cocoon and were able to release it.

Last week, Grandparents Day was celebrated. Grandparents were entertained by poems and readings from our students. Chief Donald Thompson was the guest speaker and he encouraged the grandparents to continue being involved in the lives of their grandkids. The Grandparents Day program was planned by Ms. Linda Hall, our parent educator.

Krotz Springs Elementary

When it comes to Science and S.S. fair projects, many parents become frantic and have lots of questions. So in an effort to help inform parents/students of the requirements for both fairs, the KSE Parental Involvement team hosted a 3rd – 8th Grade Science/S.S. Soiree on Wednesday, September 20th. Parents/students were able to view sample project boards, live student models, PowerPoint presentations and received a Science/S.S. project information packet. *All student attendees received a project board and a ticket for a FREE Jean day to be used on Friday, September 22nd.

Lawtell Elementary

Lawtell Elementary presented a donation by the Knights of Columbus. The Knights thanked Lawtell Elementary for their dedication to the annual food drive.

Lawtell Lady Trojan Volleyball takes 3rd place at the OJHS Tournament.

Lawtell Elementary Parental Involvement Committee met to inform parents about: Title I Funding, School Improvement Plans, Family Engagement policies and compacts. Parents were also given an opportunity to ask questions, network, and elect new PTA officers for 2017-2018.

Leonville Elementary

Leonville Elementary School held its Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on September 19, 2017, under the administration of Superintendent Patrick Jenkins and Principal Barbara Roberson. The project was started under the administration of former Superintendent Edward Brown. School board members, Leonville faculty, staff, parents, students, town members, and nearby communities participated in the celebration. The completed project consists of 18 classrooms, a cafeteria, and several bathroom facilities.

Northeast Elementary

On Friday, September 15, 2017, Northeast Elementary held Grandparent’s Day.

Palmetto Elementary

Mrs. Agnes' first-grade class worked in the school garden to plant lima beans after completing a study on germination.

Coach Guidry, Army veteran, orchestrated a flag raising ceremony. Our school was given a flag that was flown over the United States Capitol on September 25, 2012. This flag was flown in memory of a fallen US Veteran of a Foreign War. Several members of each branch of the military attended this ceremony.

Park Vista Elementary

Mrs. Breanna’s Pre-K Class at Park Vista Elementary!

This week our students learned about the letter Aa and the color red. Our pre-k class listened to the read aloud “Johnny Appleseed”. We wore little pots on our heads just like Johnny Appleseed. The students had to predict which apple he/she would like BEST; the red, green or yellow one. The students used their 5 senses to determine if their predictions were correct. We followed a recipe and used ingredients to make homemade applesauce. The students enjoyed watching Mrs. Tammy peel the apples using the apple peeler.

Port Barre High School

This past summer, 38 students from Louisiana’s 3rd and 5th Congressional Districts boarded a bus to Washington DC. This educational trip, organized by Alderman Tyrone Glover, included visits to the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, the Holocaust Museum, the African-American Museum, the Library of Congress, US Capitol, Arlington National Cemetery and the White House.

During their visit, the students were introduced to Louisiana Congressman Clay Higgins and Ralph Abraham who also helped arrange this trip.

As a gift from Congressman Clay Higgins, Alderman Glover presented them with a framed picture of the group in front of the United States Capitol signed by the Congressman himself.

South Street Elementary

Third-grade students in Mrs. Thompson's class have really been on the ball lately.

Mykayla Hawkins and Landon Bryant received the Owl Star award for always going above and beyond to help others. (Owls) Dwayne Henry received the good work bear for the most improved student for the week. (Bear)

Southwest Elementary Grandparent's Day

Washington Elementary School

Thanks to Washington Police Department, Washington Elementary was able to perform its first Mock Crisis Drill of the 2017-2018 school year which involved an intruder coming on campus and being apprehended.

Pictured along with Brenda Lavergne, the principal of Washington Elementary, is Oscar Walker of the Shining Star Lodge #262 of Sunset Louisiana who along with his organization donated backpacks with school supplies to students who attend the school.
