NJHS Outstanding Achievement Award
I am pleased to announce the launch of the National Junior Honor Society Outstanding Achievement Award program.
The NJHS Outstanding Achievement Award will recognize 500 of the most exceptional members nationwide with a $500 college savings award, to be program-managed by Oppenheimer Funds (OFI Private Investments) as part of the New Mexico Education Trust Board’s 529 college savings plan—The Education Plan.
We will nominate chosen NJHS members and the winners will be selected based on demonstrated excellence in the five pillars of NJHS: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, Character, and Citizenship.
If you would like to be considered for nomination, please complete the optional Student Self-Assessment form. Instructions and details for completing the form are included. Please submit your Student Self-Assessment by February 1st, 2016 before 4 pm. No late submissions will be accepted.
NJHS COMMUNITY SERVICE INFORMATION
NJHS members are expected to participate in fund raising, community service projects, collection drives and other NJHS activities.
10 community service hours served will be needed in order to receive a certificate of completion at the end of the year. NJHS officers voted not to count prior community service hours from the summer in order to encourage an increase in community service participation during the school year. Community service may be done at any church, non profit organization, city activities, charitable events, ect. Please have a representative sign your volunteer form.
Even if you complete your 10 service hours for the year, members may still be required to participate in 2 NJHS sponsored community service projects. One each semester.
We will be recognizing students at the end of the year awards ceremony, who have gone above and beyond and accumulated more than the required community service hours.
Information for Submitting Community Service Opportunities for Keller NJHS
If you would like NJHS to help organize an event, please send your ideas to Ms. Gomez or Mr. Rundell as soon as possible. Organizing an event takes several months and numerous hours of planning and preparation. Once an idea is submitted, it will be handed over to NJHS officers to decide how to implement and organize the event if it approved.
KMS SYNERGY SOCIETIES
KMS NJHS would like to model this statement by helping to create Societies "clubs" for the entire KMS campus. These Societies will help enrich the outstanding academic environment that already exists here at KMS.
Each officer will coordinate with 30 other NJHS members to create a "Society" which will be offered to all students starting in November 2015 thru May 2016. Participation with organizing these societies will fulfill the 2 NJHS required community service projects for the year. Each officer will be in contact with each member. Participation is required, but attendance is not. Providing snacks for the assigned society, taking attendance, etc may count as participation.
