Ronald Reagan was the 40th president of the United States who served from 1981-1989. He is most known for redefining the purpose of government and pressuring the Soviet Union to end the Cold War.

Early Life

He was born in Tampico Illinois on February 6, 1911. He graduated from Dixon High School in 1928 where he was student body president and performed in school plays. At Eureka College he played football, ran track, captained the swim team, and served as student council president. His first work was as a radio sports announcer in Iowa.

Acting Career

He was signed with a 7 year contract with Warner Brothers movie studio in 1937. In the coarse of three decades he appeared in over 50 films!

Political Career

In 1966 became governor of California and was re-elected in 1970. In 1980, he ran for President and won by winning the Electoral College (489 to 49) and capturing almost 51 percent of the popular vote. At age 69, Reagan was the oldest person elected to the U.S. presidency. He was re-elected in 1984. He implemented new political and economic initiatives when he went against labor unions, announced a new war on drugs, and ordered an invasion of Grenada. He also frequently dealt with foreign matters, such as the Cold War, the 1968 bombing of Libya and the revelation of the Iran-Contra affair.

Ronald Reagan died on June 5, 2004. He died after suffering from Alzheimer's for almost a decade and catching pneumonia.
