FEBRUARY 22, 2023 - NEWSLETTER
SLPHS families,
The weather in Minnesota may be impacting our week, but it has not diminished our collective commitment to build bright futures together.
At last night’s registration curriculum event, no parent or student who walked through our pathway’s hallway got past Mr. Wicklund. He pulled everyone into his construction and trades classroom to shoot a framing nailer, do some mudding and taping, and explore other aspects of home building and renovation. I’m pretty sure everyone learned something new. This is just one example of learning for life made possible through community and industry partnerships.
We offer some extraordinary experiences – that go beyond the core. We couldn’t do it without support and partnership – like the support we receive from the Panther Foundation. This week is the Panthers for a Purpose Week of Giving. The weather may have impacted our themed spirit days, but it does not prevent staff and families from participating in our week of giving activities to support the foundation. Be sure to take a look at the opportunities in today’s newsletter.
While students are working from home, I encourage them to complete their course registration for next year in Infinite Campus. The deadline is this Friday!
Finally, the end of trimester 2 is fast approaching with 2 ½ weeks remaining. I am encouraging students to finish the term in a positive and productive manner. Please help reinforce the value of committing their full effort to ending the trimester with a strong academic focus.
Thank you as always for your ongoing partnership. One school, one community, #SLPPantherProud!

Westwood broadcast group bridges learning and community
The results are in! After surveying the entire Westwood Intermediate and Middle School student population Mandarin Orange Chicken was named the favorite lunch choice. The least favorite? Macaroni and Cheese. (Yes, you read that right!)
The survey was a segment included in Westwood’s first-ever Panther News Broadcast. The topic was designed to appeal to the entire community. The broadcast was written, filmed and edited by a group of students who are learning new skills, exploring potential career paths and building community at Westwood.
25 dedicated students are navigating the world of news broadcasting as they develop real skills and create connections school-wide. Read more about their experience and watch the first Panther News Broadcast.
Closing Friday: Course Registration for 2023-2024
These are the final days for students to make their course requests for next year in Infinite Campus. Registration closes Friday, February 24, 2023. Find a variety of resources at the online Registration hub.
A confirmation of next year’s course selections will be sent to homes in the month of May. If a student wishes to request a change, they should contact their counselor. Final course schedules will be provided to students in August before the first day of school.
