Literacy Day & Vocabulary Parade is Coming!

Dear Families:

On Thursday, January 27th we will be holding our annual Literacy Day filled with many hands-on activities to celebrate the joy of reading. At the conclusion of the day, we will hold our Vocabulary Parade!

Students are asked to select a word and turn it into a costume. Costumes will be worn to school and students will proudly show their creativity as they walk in the parade. See below for sample costume ideas.

Our goal is to create a culture where word study is creative, interactive, memorable, and fun! We believe the Vocabulary Parade is one way to help accomplish this goal.

Thank you in advance for helping us turn vocabulary building into a Parade of Words. Please see your teacher’s classroom pages for pictures of this fun event.

The internet is also a great resource for costume ideas. Google and Pinterest can provide you with inspiration.

Citadel Heart of Learning Nominations

Through January 15th, Citadel is accepting nominations to honor local teachers from counties across Greater Philadelphia with the Citadel Heart of Learning Award.

It’s never been more important to recognize the tireless efforts of our teachers. They call it the Citadel Heart of Learning Award because effective teaching is more than just knowledge sharing and skill-building; it's a commitment to creating an environment where children feel safe to try new things and make mistakes as well as a willingness to invest in student outcomes - building relationships. It's all about heart.

Please consider nominating an AGCS teacher who has made a positive impact for the Citadel Heart of Learning Award. It's fast and easy to Submit a Nomination Form; or you can submit a video nomination on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. To enter, tag @CitadelBanking with #CitadelHeartofLearning, and tell us why your teacher deserves to be nominated.

This prestigious award is reserved for teachers going above and beyond the call of duty, truly making a difference in students’ lives. Our teachers are awesome. Let's celebrate them!

Winners will receive our glass heart award, $500 to spend in their classroom and be honored at our Awards Ceremony in May.
