District Closure
Santa Clara County Schools, March 13, 2020
Dear Cambrian Families and Staff,
We are grateful for your continued trust and patience as we navigate this unprecedented health challenge worldwide.
The safety and wellness of students, families, and school personnel are the highest priorities of all Santa Clara County schools and districts. The Santa Clara County Superintendent of Schools and all county district superintendents have decided to close schools for three weeks from Monday, March 16, 2020, through April 3, 2020. We will be back in the classroom on Monday, April 13th after our scheduled Spring Break April 6th - 10th. This closure is to plan for the implementation of guidance from the Santa Clara County Department of Public Health. School district central offices will remain open.
During this closure, district administration will have the time they need to create long-term plans and operate in ways that facilitate social distancing, provide necessary hygiene and cleaning supplies. Under the guidance of the Public Health Department, districts will determine adequate staff time and resources and create plans to address the possibility that a significant portion of their staff could be impacted and unable to work for a variety of reasons. At this time we anticipate that school districts will adhere to their approved calendars for spring breaks.
The Department of Public Health has reported that COVID-19 may be present in our community for months to come. It is our goal that our schools will develop plans quickly in order to operate in a manner that complies with all applicable public health guidance, such that they can reopen as soon as possible.
Our school district staff will work together throughout the closure to provide the vital services and resources our schools offer to our community, including, but not limited to, free and reduced meal programs. School districts will be contacting families promptly about services available to them throughout the closure.
The negative effects of school closure on children, families, and communities are significant, and children have not been shown to be a high-risk group for serious illness from this virus. As much as possible, we encourage students to continue their learning, and while engaging in daily activities we urge everyone to adhere to the social distancing guidance that has been provided. Consistent with the Department of Public Health’s recommendation to everyone in the community, groups of students should not congregate in public places.
We will continue to work in close partnership with the Department of Public Health and local school districts to support the children, parents, and essential workforce of Santa Clara County.
Please accept my gratitude for your efforts to protect each other's health and support the continuity of Cambrian School District’s mission. I will continue to keep you apprised with new information as we move forward.
