Foundations of Writing (Spring)
AEC and Students with Complex Needs
Please join the Allegheny Intermediate Unit's Training and Consultation Team (TaC) for this Writing Series
This blended professional learning series addresses research and the foundations of writing with students who have complex needs (SWCN). Topics include why writing with SWCN is needed, research and foundations of writing, purposes, strategies, & tools for the emergent and conventional writer, and a final wrap up. SWCN are students who: take the PASA; receive services/supports for life skills, autism, and/or multiple disabilities; may have communication, cognitive, and physical needs; and may receive full-time or nearly full-time special/general education services.
Synchronous opportunities will be live on Zoom. Topics will be delivered in a 90-minute session followed by a Write Bite. The Write Bite is designed as a shorter 60-minute session to provide participants with the opportunity to collaborate and expand their learning of the previously discussed topic. This is an open forum format enabling participants to bring questions, wonderings, and provide them with an opportunity to explore the topic of their choice in more depth.
Intended Audience: K-12 Special Education Teachers, Para-Educators, Occupational Therapists, Speech Language Pathologists
- Act 48 hours will be awarded upon the closure of the training series
- Up to 13.5 Act 48 hours will be awarded for live and asynchronous sessions attended
- Registration for each session is highly encouraged but not mandatory
Educators who work for LEAs in the AIU3 region will have priority registration.
