As summer begins, I continue to be humbled and grateful to be leading such a high performing community of students, families, teachers, and staff. As we all know, Buffett Magnet is a special school where extraordinary achievements happen. We do this together. #WeAreBuffett
To the Bobcat students, thank you for working hard all year long. You've excelled in your classes, activities, sports, music, and the arts. You've continued to make me laugh everyday. Your minds are full to the brim and you've earned a relaxing summer. Be safe and enjoy. Don't forget to read!
To the parents of Bobcats, thank you for supporting your student every day with nourishment, rest, volunteer hours, reading time, homework checks, donations, transportation, Buffett High Five reminders, social media likes, and continued Buffett love in our community.
A special thank you to the Buffett PTO for going above and beyond to meet the needs of our students and teachers. This year we were give resources and gratitude to enrich our experiences and keep us going to the last day. We are lucky to have such supportive and selfless support.
To the Bobcat teachers and staff who've made a huge difference to their students. Thank you for providing rich and engaging, well-rounded experiences for our Bobcats and knowing that education is about fun, wonder, and fostering curiosity. For these things, and a million others, I am grateful.
Best wishes to our graduating 8th graders! I wish you the best and will miss you when fall rolls around. For those who are leaving us for new places, I wish you well. You will always be a Bobcat. Remember that. :)

Laptop Reminders
Our check-in of laptops went very well. Thank you for all you did to ensure your child turned in all their school issued items.
Reminders:
- Students kept their bag if they are returning to Buffett in the fall.
- Students should bring their bag with them to Fall Orientation to receive their laptop.
- Check out of laptops in the fall will be very similar to last fall.
- Please send your student to the main office if they found any missing items they didn't have at check-in to have fines removed or to pay for missing items.
Rotary Honor Roll
The 2019 class of Buffett Rotary Students includes: Brooklyn V., Tyler L., Tony G., Pheben Y., Vianka C., Gabby G., Emma H., Dipika K., Sydney K., Hanna S., Karlie E., Chidochashe W., Claire B., Ashtyn M., and Isabella M.

Duke TIP State & Grand Recognition
Receiving State recognition by scoring approximately at or above the national average of recent high school graduates on at least one part of the ACT or SAT were Mercedes R., Hadley F., Justin C., Brayden S., and Mani S. These students were invited to a special recognition ceremony at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.
In addition to receiving State recognition, two Buffett students were awarded Grand recognition. These students scored approximately at or above 90 percent of recent high school graduates on at lease one part of the ACT or SAT. Congratulations Brayden S. and Mani S. (front row) on this recognition. Only about 3 percent of Duke TIP participants receive Grand recognition. These students are invited to a special ceremony at Duke University.
Spring Sports Recap
Boys Soccer
Buffett Boys Varsity Soccer completed the season with a 2-6 record, taking 10th place in the City Tournament. With several close games often ending in penalty kicks, the Buffett Boys faced several tough opponents throughout the season. This team worked incredibly hard, made significant improvement, and grew stronger as a team during this 2019 spring season. It was an absolute pleasure to work with these student-athletes, and we are already looking forward to a fresh start next spring!
Girls Soccer
The girls soccer team had another successful season this spring.
The JV team went undefeated while the varsity team got to the OPS City Championship game. An inspired Davis team beat the Lady Bobcats in the final, 1-0.
Boys Track
Boys track had a successful season as both the 7th and 8th grade boys finished 3rd at city with many personal best performances. The boys were led by Josh H., Michael U., Jackson C., Douglas M., Burton B., Jr. G., Isaiah S., and Thomas R. as they all finished the city meet with 1st place finishes. Great season boys!
Girls Track
Notable Performances at the OPS City Track Meet:
The Lady Bobcats won both girls 7th and 8th city titles! The following track athletes placed 1st at the city championship:
- Jalecia W. won both shot put and discus.
- Rachael C. won the 800, 1600, and high jump.
- MiKaiya R. won both LJ and TJ
- MaKayla T. won the 100 m high hurdles, 300 m hurdles, the 100, and the 200!
- The 7th Grade 4x4 team of Anna E., Maria M., Bella C., and Reece H.
- Kieran H. won the long jump.
Bobcat Records for the Season:
- Jalecia W. broke the Buffett records in shot put throwing 33'11 and discus at 87'10.
- MaKayla T. broke the Buffett record in 100m high hurdles with a time of 17.23 sec.
OPS City Record:
- Mikaiya R. broke the city record in triple jump at 32'8 1/2.

Lacrosse
The Buffett Lacrosse teams celebrated their seasons this past Monday (5/20).
The boys went into playoffs the #8 seed. They battled the #1 seed from Elkhorn to a 2-1 halftime score, eventually falling 5-1. At the celebration, the club honored Zayden A., Zachary N., Will N., and Lucas K., the 4 team captains from this season.
The Girls team had a great year! They were led by a group of four 8th graders in their second season of Lacrosse at Buffett, Bailey P., MacKenzie M., Anli G., Dipika K., The Buffett Girls team had a strong showing this season.

Athletic Physicals for 2019-2020
All incoming 7th graders are required by the state of Nebraska to have a physical completed after March 1, 2019. This physical can also be used for students interested in participating in athletics for the 2019-2020 school year. Forms will be going home soon for current 6th grade students.
Students in the 8th grade for the 2019-2020 school year wanting to participate in athletics will need to have a current physical completed AFTER May 1, 2019.
