Going wild about wildlife

Year Four Visit Thorp Perrow Arboretum

The Year 4s had a fun filled learning extravaganza on Wednesday and were incredibly lucky with the weather! They began their day as nature detectives during which they saw: coal tits, pheasants, ducks, ground beetles, slugs, worms and even evidence of a fox. They then made their way to the mammals' centre and saw wallabies, meerkats, goats and more. After this they were able to meet Colin, no the caretaker didn't come on the visit, it was an owl!

There was time for lunch in the sunshine, after which the children had an excitable ten minutes on the play area, and a child was overheard exclaiming, "This is the best day ever!" A bird of prey display was then enjoyed which involved being wowed by the harrier hawks' aerobatics.

Sadly the day came to an end and the children felt it had passed so quickly many were talking about trying to come back to see more. The children walked over 16.000 steps and were a joy to take. A big thank you goes to Dr Cassell and Mrs Feather for accompanying them on the trip. Everyone had a great time!

Alice's Hedgehog

Alice's mum is an official foster carer for hedgehogs - who knew there was such a thing?! The Year 2 children were excited to meet their newest charge but took good care of their prickly visitor. Our thanks to Alice's mum for coming into school.

Thank You Friends

Our thanks to the Friends of the School for running the Book Fair again last week. They have kindly chosen a wide range of books for our classrooms and the reading raffle trolley using the commission earned on all the books bought. So that means thank you to everyone who supported the fair and bought books for their children. We are all excited when new books arrive in school!

welcome Matt

This week we welcomed Matt Davies, Youth Worker at Holy Trinity Church, to lead worship. As well as telling the story of the Good Samaritan he taught the children a song with actions. The children were delighted that Matt will be joining us occasionally to lead worship.

Getting ready for SATs

Our Year 2 and Year 6 parents are probably aware by now that SATs are just around the corner! If you'd like a little more information and advice, please click this link to be directed to a booklet published by the Department for Education.

Catwalk Stars!

Fashion Show Success: M & Co hosted a fun and successful evening for us this week. Thank you to all the models from school and parents and friends who attended. The total raised from donations and the raffle was £164 which is fantastic, but our main highlight is just how much fun it was! We hope to make it an annual event and we highly recommend everyone comes along!

Book Fair Fantastic Total: Thank you for all the book fair support. We raised a brilliant £452.10 which we have invested into books for the classrooms and reading raffle prizes (along with an additional £200 which had in our account from a previous book sale).

Duck Race: Next week we will be selling tickets for our popular annual Duck Race which takes place on Wednesday 16th May 5.30pm. Tickets will be on sale after school (3-3.30pm) every day, £1 a duck numbered 1 to 200. We all meet by the River Skell on Fishegreen. This will be Mr Dudman's last year as Race Starter!

Friends' planning meeting: Wednesday 9th May 7.30pm One Eyed Rat!

Gardening opportunity: On Saturday 9th June, 10am to 2pm, helpers are required to help clear a section of the school grounds ready for the 'forest school' development. Breakfast and drinks in exchange for help!

Non- Uniform Day: Children may come in non-uniform on 15th June in exchange for bringing in tombola prizes and jars for the Summer Fair.

'Forest Friends Summer Fair' - Saturday 23rd June. Volunteer sheets will soon be up on classroom doors - please sign up to help with games, stalls, refreshments and bar duty! More information to follow.

Disco Dancing: Our last disco of the school year will be on Friday 6th July, more details to follow.

End of Year Social: Details to be confirmed, but we'd like to invite all parents to join us for an end of year social gathering (possibly in a pub beer garden!).
