The WAVA Wave
September 1, 2016
The WAVA Admin Team hopes you are having a fantastic summer! I just wanted to share a few items that will be happening in July and August with our new and returning families. Starting in July, watch for emails from your Family Academic Support Team.
Your Family Academic Support Liaison (FASL) will be sending out information regarding onboarding activities. Your FASL’s will help you complete your onboarding checklist and making sure we have your most current information to ensure communications and shipments reach you in time to start the new school year. Don’t forget to check in periodically on the wava.k12start.com web page. You will find the 16/17 school year calendar, links to the K12 Learning Coach University, and great videos for all topics from setting up Learning Coach Accounts to setting up your students work space!
Remember you are not in this alone! Your Family Academic Support Liaison is here to support you. They are here to answer questions and help you with your onboarding checklist. Together you will accomplish these tasks to ensure a successful start to our next school year!

Required for 7th Graders: Hearing and Vision Screening
Washington law (WAC 246-760) requires that vision and hearing screening services be offered to students in grades K-3, 5 and 7. WAVA offers you 4 options to complete your child’s screening. Please take 2 minutes and fill out the registration survey and indicate your preference. All families will receive follow up communications from the Assessment Team to ensure you can complete this screening requirement. Contact Jazmine McCoy at jamccoy@k12.com if you have any questions, thank you!

M.A.P. Testing is September 8th and September 9th
During the first week of school on September 8th and 9th students will be taking their required Math and Reading MAP test. These two required tests are used by your teachers to guide instruction.
Tests will be given by a teacher in Class Connect. You will need to check your schedule to see your exact time for testing. If this test conflicts with another required session, please attend the MAP testing session as we have a limited number of sessions for testing. The test takes approximately 60-90 minutes, although some students take a little longer.
Before you attend the Class Connect testing session, please use the below guide to ensure your computer is ready to run the test. It is important that you turn off pop-up blocker and use Safari, Chrome or Firefox for the test. Instruction for these tasks are explained in the guide.

Using Texting/SMS for Communication
We are excited to announce a change to our new WAVA text messaging feature.
Beginning on August 8th, you will receive a welcome text message, letting you know that you have been opted into receiving text message notifications from WAVA. These messages will allow you to receive important, urgent updates regarding school deadlines, events, outages, and other pertinent informatio.
Standard text messaging and data rates will apply and WAVA is not responsible for these charges.
With this change, please note that all messages from WAVA will be sent from numbers 23177 or 63709. We encourage you to save these numbers in your contact list, so you can easily identify messages from WAVA in the future.
Though you have the ability to respond to text messages, WAVA does not have the ability to read the content of your replies. We simply receive notification that you have responded. If you would like to receive a response back regarding a question, please respond by emailing info@wava.org.
Should you choose to opt out of receiving text messages from WAVA, simply reply STOP to the welcome message. As WAVA is not responsible for text messaging and data rates, be sure to reply STOP if you do not wish to receive text messages.
