St. Luke Weekly Memo
October 26 - November 2, 2017
School News
Our school will represent ourselves in Tofield at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Nov 5, 2017. Mass starts at 11:00 am. St Luke families are encouraged to attend.
Catholic School Review
A letter was sent home last week explaining that a School Improvement Process is being conducted in our school at the moment. The purpose of this process is to assist in the creation of a strategic plan that continues to move and improve our school in the area of Catholicity. If you haven't already done so please complete the parent survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/StLparents Thank you in advance for your assistance.
3-Way Conferences
3-Way Conference bookings are open now. Please go to the link here to find a time that works for your family to come on November 1st to meet with your child(ren)'s teacher(s). Please remember to bring the Evidence of Learning portfolios that are going home today back to help guide the conversations at conferences.
Book Fair
Our book fair will be set up from October 31- November 2. Families will have the opportunity to visit the book fair at 3-Way Conferences on November 1 from 4-8pm. Students who dress up in a western theme on November 1st will be entered in a draw for prizes. Volunteers are still needed especially from 4-8 pm on November 1st. Please contact Mrs. Deb Hill at debbie.hill@eics.ab.ca if you are available to volunteer. If you have any plastic bags s to send any and all bags they can spare.
Reduce Your Footprint
Thank you to all the families who donated shoes last week. St. Luke collected 472 pairs of shoes that will be donated to Sole4Souls a not for profit group in Ontario that helps developing countries build their economies while diverting waste from the landfill at the same time. The draws will be made tomorrow, Friday morning, during our Praise and Worship.
Halloween
Halloween is approaching and is a very fun time of year for children. A couple of reminders as you begin preparing for Halloween.
- Students are invited to come to school in their costumes on Halloween.
- The junior high students are busy preparing Halloween activities for students during the afternoon on Tuesday, October 31. If any parent volunteers are interested in helping supervise stations, please contact Miss. Shindell at carianne.shindell@eics.ab.ca.
- As part of our healthy school focus we ask families to refrain from sending "choose least often" food treats to school for students to share.
- Students who are dressing up are asked to keep costumes school appropriate (not too gory) and leave weapons at home.
- The WE Team will be hosting a pizza lunch for Halloween.
- The school dance is on October 27 from 5:30-8:30 pm. There will be a concession with items costing $1 and $2.
Candy Exchange for a Healthy Treat
We encourage every student to participate in an exchange. Students are invited to bring five Halloween candies to school in exchange for a mandarin orange. The students who obtain an orange will be able to participate in decorating the mandarins like
mini pumpkins. This activity is a fun way to encourage a healthy school while keeping the spirit of Halloween alive! The candy collected will be donated to the George Spady Centre in Edmonton to help people with substance related disorders.
