Counselor's Corner

From Mrs. Weston @ Manvel School

Welcome to Winter, Manvel Families! I wanted to give you an update on what we learned in November, and where we are headed in December. I am available each Thursday at MPS. Feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns you may have ~ I am here to help!

Elementary School

Your students and I have been hard at work in the classrooms learning valuable skills.

In November, the elementary students learned about our internal feeling thermometers. We identified the different "zones" of emotions that we can feel, and learned tools that can help us calm down when we are in the red or orange zones. We also learned tools that can help us cheer up when we are in the blue zone.

Our school-wide character trait for December is Kindness. We will be working on self-care and being kind to ourselves by learning about positive self-talk. We will also begin to work on being kind to others by learning upstander strategies.

Middle School

This year the middle school students will be learning about how to improve mental health by using their Sources of Strength wheels. In November we focused on the strength of positive friends and learned about how to spot signs of healthy and unhealthy friendships.

In December we will focus on the strength of generosity.
