Monday Memo

Holy Name of Mary, Monday, October 7, 2019

Happy Monday!

Good morning everyone,

Last week was difficult for everyone. Fortunately, we got the good news late last night that a provincial agreement has been reached between CUPE and the Government of Ontario and that it will be business as usual this week. We are thrilled that all our CUPE staff members were able to reach a deal, and we are so glad that you will be with us this week. Thank you to everyone for being supportive of one another during these difficult times.

Due to the uncertainty of what was to come this week, some of this week's events have been postponed, including: Monday's assembly, the Senior Soccer Tournament, and the Catholic School Council meeting. We will update you on the new dates as we receive them.

World Languages Podcast

I listened to this great podcast called "How World Language Teaching has Evolved" this weekend while I was out walking the dog. It is an interview with a high school French teacher who has made a gradual shift from teaching French grammar and textbook exercises to teaching French through authentic situations. She shares lots of great ideas for communicative activities. Even though some of the ideas she shares are for older students, this would be a great listen for all our French teachers!

Great Stuff

Here are a few photos of great things happening around the school last week. Don't be shy about texting me your own photos to include in these weekly newsletters. (Lots of people do!). I can't always get around to see everything, but I love to share what is happening in your classrooms. Click on any of the smaller photos to zoom in!

Shout-Outs

Catherine Koelher, she took on all the grade 7 and 8 Immersions Monday afternoon to save on a supply teacher so I could help out with the grade 6s at their faith day! Also, everyone else who took on the sprinkled grade 5s and a few 6s on Monday so the 6s could attend the Faith Day in Smiths Falls. Also Caroline and Pascale, thank you for taking on so much during the work to rule! I don't know how you figured out that zamboni, but that was amazing!! You two rock and thanks for leading us with so much heart! - Sara Reid

Gina- offered to help do all of my laminating and then cut it all out too! She’s the best! - Katie Simpson

Pascale is awesome and is always thinking of ways to better HNOM community. - Rachel Hannigan

Anyone who has helped me with my “bathroom” break emergencies - me and baby can’t do it alone! Thanks! Mary Russell is always there when we need her! Thanks for all you do! - Sara Hart
