Team 9 Core Classes
We are over halfway through the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. I feel so proud of Team 9 students for taking on such a big book with such complex ideas. I am amazed everyday by the thoughtful conversations we have, and the connections that students make to real life truly blow me away. Please ask your student to tell you about their experience with this book so far!
Last week, we covered the trial of Tom Robinson from the novel. Instead of reading the three trial chapters from the book, students acted out the trial scene in a reader's theater format. Look below to see a few pictures from our trial! Students did an awesome job.
Our goal is to finish reading To Kill a Mockingbird before December 11th so students can begin working on their final project. Their final project for this unit will be due before winter break begins!

When we return from Thanksgiving Break, we will be reviewing Unit 1 and assessing. We will be taking a Unit Assessment as well as completing the iReady Diagnostic. We use the iReady Diagnostic to determine how best to meet the needs of each individual student in our school. Please help your student be prepared to show what they know by getting good sleep and a healthy breakfast.
We are drawing near the end of the semester, which means that our 8th graders are getting closer to being 9th graders. In order to help them be more successful, I am encouraging the following:
1. Coming to class prepared (Binder, Planner, INB, and Computer every day)
2. Getting help when needed (tutoring and Schoology)
3. Turning work in on time

We wrapped up our Lewis and Clark projects and our study of the Louisiana Purchase last week.
This week, we are learning about the presidency of Andrew Jackson and Westward Expansion right now.
We have looked at Andrew Jackson's background and his character traits and now we are studying the Indian Removal Act and how this affected the tribes that were forced to move.
Next week, we will continue to delve in to the Indian Removal Act and transition in to how western territories were settled from different perspectives.

This week we finished up and presented our Landform Project and I must say that I was amazed by some of the work these students completed! This next week we will be moving forward to figuring out how these landforms came to be in the first place. As well as beginning a dive into plate tectonics.
As the weather starts getting colder and flu season approaches, I just want to remind us all to make sure we are all getting enough sleep and washing our hands frequently!
